Gurdwara Millwoods

A place of education and worship for the followers of the Sikh faith These institutions were running Gurdwaras in either rented or own-purchased buildings.

Sikhs came to Edmonton the capital of economically prosperous and oil rich province Alberta of Canada starting in the early sixties. Up to 1980 these Sikhs had formed 3 institutions to fulfill their social and religious needs. On November 5, 1982 an society in the name of Ramgarhia Gursikh Society of Edmonton was registered with the Government of Alberta. In March 1983 first formal managing commit

tee of Society was formed unanimously. Management rented a hall and started religious congregation every alternate Sunday. First religious congregation was held on April 10, 1983. After seeing Sangat's enthusiasm, deewans were started weekly. Simultaneously, new site for the Gurdwara Sahib building was purchased and construction work was started. The First Akhand Path Sahib was held on Gurdwara premises in April 1986. Since then, the Gurdwara building has been extended to it's present size.

We are excited to announce that we are hosting a Gurbani Sangeet Darbar on Sept. 19th 2026. This Darbar will be in honour of Bhai Avtar Singh Ragi Ji’s 100th Birth Year!

Bhai Avtar Singh Ragi Ji was a Legendary Kirtani, with a family lineage tracing all the way back to Guru Sahib’s time. He was the 11th generation in his family to carry this tradition forward. Bhai Sahib Ji performed Kirtan across the world, connecting people with Sikhi and the ancient Sikh musical tradition of Gurbani Sangeet.

Many of the Reets Bhai Sahib Ji sang trace back to Guru Sahib’s own time, passed down through his family generation after generation. The youth will carry on this legacy, singing these very Reets during the Darbar.
