Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” ~2 Peter 1:4
In the past weeks, we have explored how to pray with the Word of the Lord, and now we understand why it is essential to pray according to God’s Word. Beyond receiving answers to our prayers, we can also activate the promises of the Lord in our lives through His Word.
However, to know and claim these promises, we must first study the Word. Consider it this way: how can you know the content of a book if you don’t read it? Or how can you know the taste of a meal if you don’t first try it? Similarly, how can you know the promises of God if you don’t read the Bible?
It’s crucial to meditate on the Word of the Lord day and night, not just because God wants us to read His book, but because it contains everything we need to live our Christian lives according to His will. Within it lie the promises He has given to us, all waiting for us to lay claim to them.
Some might argue that certain promises are old and were intended for a specific group of people. However, here’s a reminder: the Word of the Lord, though written thousands of years ago, is as relevant and alive today as it was back then. The Bible is the only book written so long ago, yet it still carries the power to change a person’s destiny and generation.
Oh, how powerful the Book of the Law is! It contains promises and answers to your questions. In the Bible, you can claim the blessings that have been made available to you, even without struggling for them. Why? Because they have already been given!
So, what should you do next? The next step is to draft a study plan. While you can find promises of God online, the best way is to study the Bible yourself. Create a plan for how you want to read your Bible.

“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” ~ James 4:3
When we understand that prayer is not merely a means to an end but a powerful tool for communication with God, our approach to prayer changes. Many Christians often pray solely to receive something from God, but in most cases, their requests are not aligned with His will. Sometimes, these prayers are more about glorifying the flesh than honoring God.
How, then, can we expect such prayers to be answered?
A common question arises: “How do I know if my prayer aligns with God’s will?” One way to discern this is by examining your motives. As seen in Scripture, it is crucial to check the motive behind every request we make in prayer. Even seemingly selfless prayers can sometimes stem from a place of selfishness.
For example, consider someone praying for a new car—not because they lack transportation but because they want to impress others. In this scenario, the motive behind the request is not one that pleases God. Instead, it feeds the desires of the flesh, which is why such prayers often go unanswered.
This is why many prayers remain unanswered—not because God is absent or unwilling to listen, but because the motives behind the requests do not glorify Him. When we pray, we must ensure that our prayers are not driven by the desire to gratify our flesh but by a desire to glorify God.
For instance, asking God to bless you so you can help the poor or the needy is a request that aligns with God’s will because it glorifies Him, not your flesh.
It is also important to remember that while our lips may speak the right words, God looks at the heart. Therefore, every time you pray, take a moment to do a heart check and ask yourself these questions:
– Am I praying for the right reasons?
– Am I making this request out of selfish motives?
Any prayer rooted in selfishness can never align with God’s will.
Prayer- Lord check my heart, if there be any selfish way in me, and purge my motives from the influence of flesh.

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” ~ Galatians 5 vs 24.

The function of the Holy Spirit is to keep us believers on the right path until the day our Lord Jesus Christ comes to retrieve His bride. One of the ways He does this is by transforming us into a version of ourselves that is more Christlike.

Yes, we have gained the righteousness of God through faith by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, but it doesn’t end there. Now, a significant challenge the body of Christ faces is the ideology of “Once saved, always saved.” This ideology perpetuates the misunderstanding that once you accept Christ, then it ends there. Sadly, it doesn’t, and this is where the Holy Spirit comes in.

After we accept the gift of Salvation, it is expected that we begin to work on ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit to mortify our flesh, allowing our spirit to take over, making us more Christlike. If we read Galatians 5 from verse 19 down to 26, we get to see the works of the flesh being discussed: sexual immorality, strife, jealousy, and much more. In these verses, there is a warning for those who engage in the works of the flesh, for they shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

On the other hand, it is expected that we adopt the Fruits of the Holy Spirit as seen in verse 22, some of which are love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, faithfulness, etc. Believers are to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit to stay on the path of righteousness consistently.

PRAYER: Father, help me yield to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
