Missionaries serving with the Canada Edmonton Mission recently volunteered at the World Triathlon Cup Edmonton, supporting athletes from around the world—including elite and para-athletes.
Using JustServe, missionaries serving in the Edmonton Area find local opportunities to serve and contribute to their communities. At the triathlon, missionaries helped athletes at the swim exit, assisted para-athletes in and out of the water, and supported the World Triathlon Cup by providing water and ice at an aid station.
“It was fun to cheer on the athletes and to serve them,” said Elder Cassell. “It was cool to see that even though many of us come from different places, we are all united.”
For Elder Bond, the experience offered a lesson in perseverance and individual strengths.
“Some of the athletes were missing limbs or were blind, but they all navigated the course in their own way,” he said. “We are all gifted different talents from God and we all go through different challenges. There is no one way to conquer our struggles, but regardless, we have to use our talents and put effort out to bring accomplishment and peace in.”
Through JustServe, missionaries and community members continue to find opportunities to support local events, organizations and individuals throughout the Edmonton Area.
