Service has a wonderful way of bringing people together.
Missionaries serving in the Canada Edmonton Mission joined members of congregations in the Bonnie Doon area to volunteer at NorQuest College's Making Cooking Connections program, where they served alongside community members in support of newcomer students, Edmonton’s Food Bank, and Edmonton Public Library.
Volunteers were paired one-on-one with newcomer students to prepare a delicious meal using everyday ingredients, creating much more than lunch—they built friendships, shared stories, and learned from one another. Everyone worked together to prepare warm barley salad, cucumber salad, fresh focaccia bread, and blueberry desserts.
Debbie Bonnell, who participated in the event, shared:
"The NorQuest 'Making Cooking Connections' event was a new but fun-filled experience. I loved meeting and working with the students. We shared many fun experiences. We laughed—and even shed a few tears while chopping onions! It was a joy to prepare and enjoy a tasty meal together."
