For LWL today, Bishop Linda is sharing a back-to-school prayer written by the National Prayer Team.

Dear Heavenly Father,

As children, youth and young adults return to school for another year of learning, we entrust them to Your loving care, guidance and protection. They are precious to us, and we are thankful that they are even more precious to You.

We pray for all those who teach, lead and support them. Give educators wisdom, patience, compassion and strength as they help their students grow in knowledge, understanding and character. May classrooms and campuses be places of discovery and creativity, where students are encouraged to explore the wonder of Your creation, develop the gifts You have given them, and grow into the people You have created them to be.

Be especially near to those who approach this new school year with uncertainty or fear. Comfort the child entering a classroom for the first time, the student beginning at a new school, the young adult leaving home, and the parent learning to let go. Give them courage for what is new, peace in moments of anxiety, and the assurance that You are always with them.

Be with everyone impacted by the back-to-school transition: children, youth, young adults, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff. Bless their relationships and their work. For those who know You as Lord and Saviour, may they be shining lights of Your goodness, grace and love wherever You have placed them.

Surround them with Your peace and protection. Guide them with Your wisdom. Give them kindness toward those who are lonely, courage to stand for what is right, perseverance when learning is difficult, and humility to ask for help when they need it.

May this school year be filled not only with growth in knowledge and understanding, but also with growth in faith, character and love.

We entrust this new school year to You, confident that wherever they go, You go with them.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

As many young people (and life-long learners!) and school staff head back to class today, here is a prayer for Students to pray, shared by the FMCIC National Prayer Team and our Bishop, Linda Adams, in her weekly email:

Dear Lord
Use my eyes to notice someone who needs a friend.
Open my ears to listen and learn.
Help my mind to discover new things.
Remind my heart that You are near when I am worried or afraid.
Help me to be kind, patient and loving to others.
Give me courage to do what is right.
Help me use the gifts You have given me.
And wherever I go today, help me shine Your light.
Amen.

Over the past month, we have been collecting backpacks and school supplies for Hoshizaki House, the local womens shelter. As of this morning, we collected 15 backpacks and a lots of school supplies and I was able to take them to the shelter this morning. They were very excited and thankful to receive all of them plus some dishes, hygiene, and cleaning products that had also come to our donation bucket. A great way to start a Monday and to bless our community! Thank you to all who have donated. If you’d still like to donate backpacks and school supplies, we will be collecting until this coming Sunday. For the month of September, we will be collecting unscented laundry soap for the shelter and continuing to collect food for the Dryden Food Bank.

A good word from Christine Caine this morning that pairs well with the Creators of the Bible App verse of the day, Proverbs 16:9. ‘In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord established their steps.’ Notes in the margin of my Bible from another devotional say ‘rest in the sovereignty of the One who never misses a step. Peace doesn’t come from having all the answers, but from trusting that God is directing your steps.’ As we learn about walking humbly with God and discipleship today, let us keep this lesson in mind.

Urgent Prayer Requested for Asia Creative Access--NP

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and
the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Psalm 46:1-2

Your urgent prayers are requested for our Free Methodist family in Creative Access- NP who have been affected by catastrophic flash flooding that has devastated communities and swept away homes, businesses and vital infrastructure. Reports from church leaders indicate that many people remain missing, including church members, family members, and others connected to our ministry communities.

Pray for families waiting anxiously for news of loved ones, especially those whose relatives disappeared in the flooding or while traveling through affected areas. Ask God to comfort those facing uncertainty, grief and loss.
Pray for pastors and church leaders as they locate, care for, and minister to those impacted by the disaster. Many are responding while dealing with losses within their own families and congregations.
Pray for rescue workers searching difficult terrain, for the safe recovery of those still missing, and for God's provision of shelter, food, medical care and protection for all who have been displaced.

Our Free Methodist family is hurting Please join us in prayer, asking the Lord to draw near to these devastated communities, bringing His mercy, peace, and hope in the midst of tragedy.
