Last evening, the Montreal Lutheran Clergy held a send-off for Pastors Mira Salmelainen and Siyelusiwe Msevenzi. We are grateful for their time with us as colleagues in ministry and are equally grateful for the ways in which they will share their gifts in the next steps in their journeys. Pastor Salmelainen is returning to Finland. Pastor Msevenzi has received a call to Peace Parkland Parish, a shared ministry in the towns of Langenburg and Churchbridge,

Christ the Redeemer and St. Lutherans Downtown (St. John's) Confirmation classes. As we continue the theme of Stories of our Faith this month we looked at the creation stories (outdoors!) and the Road to Emmaus.

Join us this Sunday as Bishop Peter Paul Thomas of the Arcot Lutheran Church in Tamil Nadu, India will preach and join us for a Coffee and Learn after the service. It is an honour to have the bishop with us this week. It is a way that we can connect and deepen relationships with the global Christian community. Of that community, there are 80 million Lutherans!
The Arcot Lutheran church was established in the 1800's by Danish Lutheran Missionaries. The church from its early years was (and continues to be) groundbreaking as it was in ministry with people marginalized by the caste system. Today many of its members are Dalit (lower classes.) Plan to attend this Sunday to welcome the bishop, honour his presence with us, and for an interesting conversation.
