We extend condolences and our deepest sympathies to family and friends of our dear friend and member, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Mullen. ~Rev Sheila Redden-Smith
Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Mullen of Weymouth, NS, our Aunt Bet, passed away suddenly on May 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Betty was predeceased by her parents Hattie K. (Andrews) and Merle S. Mullen, brother Malcolm and sister-in-law Florence (Thibault). Betty leaves behind her nephew Andrew (Leanne) of Weymouth, NS and niece Anne (David) of Quebec City, QC and their families Benjamin (Mallory) and daughter Abbigail and Samuel (Olivia) Mullen, and Katherine (Takin) and Thomas Carberry. A very special friend to be mentioned at this time is Ruth Frizzell (Anthony) and children Simon and Oliver Frizzell.
Betty graduated from the Yarmouth School of Nursing in 1961 and began her career in Pincher Creek, AB. After working in both Digby and Yarmouth hospitals, she pursued a Master’s degree in community nursing. Her work as a VON nurse began in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Although she left the field, her desire to remain helpful and active never waned. Betty was a good friend to many, a willing and tireless helper in the community and an active member of many organisations. She was also a long-term member of the former Heartz Memorial United Church (Weymouth) and more recently of the Rivers of Grace United Church (Digby). She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered in the community.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service for all those who wish to attend on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Riverside Cemetery, Weymouth North at 1:30pm. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion on Back St., Weymouth. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the TLC Animal Shelter, Digby.
