RSVP Day of Dead Circle Dance & Ritual Nov. 2
Marta and Darlene invite you to join us in the dance circle to celebrate this special day with ritual, dance and music, to honour and remember a deceased family member. If you wish, bring a photo and/or a small memento of a dear one for our "ofrenda," and dress in a way that reminds you of your departed loved one.
Dia de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) is one of the biggest and most important holidays in Mexico. Its origin dates back hundreds of years to the Aztec and Toltec cultures when Death was considered a natural phase in Life's arc. The deceased were still part of the community, returning to Earth once a year to feast with the family. It is an ancient life-affirming celebration to show love and respect for the deceased family members.
Nowadays, Day of the Dead is celebrated on Nov 2nd to coincide with the Christian celebration of All Souls Day. A common custom is to prepare an "ofrenda" which is an altar decorated with candles and flowers, pictures of the deceased and laden with their favorite food, as well as "sugar skulls" and "pan de mu**to," a specialty sweet bread which is decorated with dough in the form of bones. In rural areas, the cemeteries become a gathering place to pray, eat, drink, play music and in general welcome the spirits back home in a festive mode with a trail of flower petals.

Marta loves dance! Having grown up in Mexico, dancing has been part of her culture and education. Marta has travelled far and wide in pursuit of her dance dreams and has danced and learned with many well-known teachers. She considers dance an important part of her spiritual practice.

Timing: 6:30 pm or later: Arrival - allow time to get settled, to view the ofrenda and to add your memento
7:00 pm Dancing begins.

ENTRY: Please use the hall entrance closest to Garry Street (to the right/west of the main entrance).
Location Protocol: no virus symptoms, fragrance free
