Today in children’s time we learned the origin of the peace symbol:
The peace symbol (\☮), designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom for the British nuclear disarmament movement, represents nonviolence, harmony, and anti-war sentiments. It combines the semaphore signals for “N” (nuclear) and “D” (disarmament) within a circle. It is widely used in protests, counter-culture movements, and fashion to represent global solidarity and anti-violence. This Sunday serves as a moment to reflect on Jesus as a leader, a Good Shepard, who provides both stability and the freedom of an abundant life. Just as there were those who knew the meaning of those semaphore symbols, there are those know the meaning of the good shephard. ☮️
