Anglican worship in Woodside began in 1914 in the Mission Hall, located on Pleasant Street. Original congregants included employees of the Acadia Sugar and Imperial Oil refineries, and their families. In 1920, the annual meeting of Christ Church, downtown Dartmouth, passed a motion to erect a church at Woodside, on a site provided by the provincial government, to better serve the growing community

. On September 18, 1921 Archbishop Worrell laid the cornerstone and the parish was established. Alban’s has maintained a prayerful presence in the Woodside community with continuous worship, pastoral care and outreach. The Parish Hall has served as a public gathering place for concerts, socials and as a polling station. It was also the site of the first Credit Union in Dartmouth. Several of our current members acknowledge the institution with enabling them to establish themselves and to invest in their futures. Alban's has changed demographically over the years, parishioners remain connected to the area through various ministries at the local seniors’ care facility and nearby hospitals, while also extending Christ's mission to the wider community through support of Margaret’s House and local food bank programs.
