The Lying Lips

“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.” (Proverbs 12: 22)

Murray Watts tells the story of a man baptized in a remote mountain village. Before his conversion, he was known as an outrageous liar, and the villagers doubted his sudden change of heart. When the minister immersed him in the icy river, the man emerged shivering. “Is it cold?” the missionary asked. “No, it’s fine,” replied the man. Immediately, a villager shouted, “Dunk him again, Pastor—he’s still a liar!” The joke highlights a real spiritual truth: true transformation begins in the heart but must be evident in the words we speak.

The Bible speaks clearly about lying. It declares that “lying lips are an abomination to the Lord” (Proverbs 12:22). An abomination is something detestable and offensive to God. While people may excuse lies as small, harmless, or necessary, God sees them differently because they corrupt trust and distort truth. Like a crack in a building's foundation, a lie may appear insignificant at first but can weaken the entire structure.

God's Word goes further and tells us that He hates lying. Among the things the Lord hates are “a lying tongue” and “a false witness who speaks lies” (Proverbs 6:16-19). Lying damages relationships, destroys reputations, and creates confusion. Consider Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11), whose deception before God brought serious consequences. Their story reminds us that God takes truth seriously.

Most importantly, lying is contrary to God's nature. Scripture says, “God is not a man, that He should lie” (Numbers 23:19), and “it is impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18). God is truth, and Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Therefore, every lie moves away from God's character, while truth reflects His nature.

The good news is that God delights in those who walk in truth. “Those who deal truthfully are His delight” (Proverbs 12:22). Honest people may sometimes face difficult consequences, but they enjoy God's favor and the peace of a clear conscience. Let us choose truth in our words, actions, and motives, reflecting the God of truth whom we serve.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of truth. Forgive me for every dishonest word, exaggeration, or deception. Purify my heart and help me to always speak truth in love. Let my words reflect Your character and bring honor to Your name. Give me the courage to be honest even when it is difficult, and help me to walk with integrity before You and others. A Burden to Be Avoided

“The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”(Proverbs 22: 7)

Debt can be a heavy burden that restricts freedom and creates unnecessary pressure. While the Bible does not declare all borrowing sinful, it consistently warns about its dangers. God's desire is for His children to live in wisdom, integrity, and financial freedom.

The Scriptures strongly emphasize the importance of paying what we owe. “The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous shows mercy and gives” (Psalm 37:21). Failing to repay a legitimate debt is not merely poor financial management; it is a matter of honesty and righteousness before God. Believers are called to be people of integrity whose word and commitments can be trusted.

Debt can also compromise freedom. Solomon observed that “the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7). Like a traveler carrying a heavy backpack up a mountain, debt can slow progress, limit choices, and create ongoing stress. What begins as convenience can become a form of bo***ge.

God's wisdom encourages careful planning and contentment. Jesus taught the importance of counting the cost before undertaking a project (Luke 14:28). Wise stewardship means living within our means, planning expenditures carefully, and avoiding the temptation to spend tomorrow's income today. Credit can create the illusion of abundance, but it is not the same as possessing resources.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “Owe no one anything except to love one another” (Romans 13:8). While life circumstances may sometimes require borrowing, believers should seek to avoid unnecessary debt, repay obligations faithfully, and trust God as their provider. Let us pursue financial decisions that honor Christ, preserve freedom, and reflect godly stewardship.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Provider and Sustainer. Grant me wisdom to manage my resources faithfully and to live within the means You have given me. Help me to avoid unnecessary debt, honor every financial commitment, and walk in integrity before You and others. Deliver me from the pressures of poor stewardship and teach me contentment. May my financial decisions bring glory to Your name and reflect trust in Your provision. In Jesus' name, Amen. …..NBM

A Life Worthy of Respect

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.”(1 Timothy 6: 11)

A life worthy of respect is not built overnight; it is formed through a lifelong walk with God. The foundation of such a life is faith, love, and patience. Faith anchors us in God’s promises, love shapes our relationships, and patience enables us to endure trials with grace. Together, these qualities produce a character that honors God and inspires others.

Teaching plays a vital role in this formation. Paul instructed Timothy, “Continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of” (2 Timothy 3:14). The instruction here is for us to receive sound biblical teaching to build a godly life. Hearing alone is not enough. The Word must be internalized. David declared, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11). Truth stored in the heart transforms conduct and character.

A deep sense of worth from God’s Word also shapes a respected life. When we understand that we are loved, chosen, and redeemed by God (Ephesians 1:4-7), we no longer seek validation from the world. Like a tree planted by rivers of water draws its supply from the rivers (Psalm 1:3), our confidence comes from God's approval, producing stability and fruitfulness.

Consider a potter shaping clay. The process is gradual, requiring pressure, patience, and skill. Likewise, God uses His Word, His Spirit, and life's experiences to mold us into people of faith, love, and patience. Here is the challenge: seek a life worthy of respect by pursuing Christ daily. Let His Word shape your heart, His love directs your actions, and His grace forms your character.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to a life that honors You. Build within me faith that trusts You, love that serves others, and patience that endures every trial. Help me to receive, internalize, and obey Your Word daily. Remind me of my worth in Christ so that I may live with confidence and humility. Shape my character by Your Spirit and make my life a testimony of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today is Reflection Sunday. I invite you to take a moment with me to thoughtfully reflect on the devotionals from this past week.

Biblical Principles for Wealth Creation – Am I applying God's principles of diligence, stewardship, and generosity in my pursuit of wealth?

Escaping Spiritual Deception – How can I remain rooted in God's Word so that I am not led astray by false teachings or worldly influences?

When Suffering Persists – When trials continue longer than expected, do I trust God's wisdom and remain faithful to Him?

Finding Rest in Weary Times – Am I bringing my burdens to Christ and receiving the rest that only He can provide?

Prayer for Today - Father, thank You for speaking to us through Your Word. Help us to walk in wisdom, avoid deception, endure suffering with faith, and find true rest in Your presence. Guide our decisions so they align with Your divine purpose for our lives. Fill us with the character, joy, and love of Christ, making us a delightful witness to everyone we meet. A Delightful Witness For Christ

“Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.”(Philippians 4: 5)

In a world where many people carry hidden burdens, loneliness, and weariness, believers are called to be a refreshing presence. A follower of Christ should not merely be known for sound doctrine but also for a Christlike character that inspires and encourages others. People should leave an encounter with a believer feeling strengthened, valued, and pointed toward God.

First, believers should be marked by joy. Scripture says, “The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Joy is not the absence of problems but the presence of Christ. A joyful believer brings hope into discouraging situations.

Second, believers should demonstrate kindness and compassion. “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted” (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus welcomed the weary, the broken, and the overlooked. In the same way, a warm smile, a listening ear, or a thoughtful word can become a powerful testimony of God's love.

Third, believers should cultivate peace and encouragement. “Therefore, comfort each other and edify one another” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Consider a large tree on a hot day. Travelers are drawn to its shade because it provides relief. Likewise, Christians should provide spiritual refreshment to those around them through patience, wisdom, and encouragement.

The world has enough critics, complainers, and discouragers. God calls His people to reflect the beauty of Christ. When our lives are filled with the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, kindness, and goodness (Galatians 5:22-23), we become a delightful witness for the Lord. May others be inspired to seek Christ because they have experienced His character through us.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, make my life a reflection of the beauty of Christ. Fill me with Your joy, kindness, peace, and compassion. Help me to encourage the weary, comfort the lonely, and bring hope to those around me. Let my words and actions point others to Jesus. May everyone I meet experience something of Your love through me today. Shape my character by Your Spirit and make me a refreshing witness for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Aligning Today’s Decisions With Tomorrow’s Calling

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”(Psalm 90:12)

Every day presents choices that shape our future. God calls believers to live intentionally, aligning today's decisions with tomorrow's calling. Wisdom is not merely knowing what is right; it is choosing today what will bring honor tomorrow.

Those who desire an honorable future must learn to live today according to the greater purpose God has prepared for them. Like Joseph, they will endure betrayal and hardship in the knowledge of their greater purpose. Years later, they could say, like Joseph, “God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). Like an architect who follows a blueprint before laying a foundation, believers must make decisions according to God's calling rather than temporary circumstances. Ask yourself: Does this choice move me closer to God's purpose for my life?

Jesus taught, “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:20). A wise farmer thinks beyond today's labor and anticipates tomorrow's harvest. Like a hardworking farmer, we labour in obedience, prayer, generosity, and service, knowing that these are seeds that bear fruit in God's kingdom. Decisions driven only by immediate gratification often lead to regret, but decisions rooted in God's values produce lasting blessings.

These practical principles point us to an even greater reality: the future God has prepared for His people. Believers do not merely plan for earthly success; we live in light of eternal life. “Our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). Every faithful choice today prepares our hearts for the glorious future promised in Christ.

Therefore, let us live wisely. God has richly blessed His children not only with earthly possibilities and opportunities, but also with the certainty of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The future belongs to those who walk faithfully with Him today.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, grant me wisdom to align today's decisions with Your calling upon my life. Help me to choose what honors You, invest in what bears eternal fruit, and remain faithful in both small and great responsibilities. Guard me from distractions that pull me away from Your purpose. Fix my eyes on the glorious future promised in Christ and let the hope of eternal life shape how I live each day. In Jesus' name, Amen….NBM

Finding Rest in Weary Times

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”(Matthew 11: 28)

Burnout often occurs when we carry burdens that God never intended us to bear alone. In a world that celebrates constant activity, we must remember that God designed us not only for work but also for rest. From creation, God established a rhythm of labor and Sabbath. “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it” (Genesis 2:3). Sabbath rest reminds us that God is the Sustainer of our lives, and the world does not depend upon our constant striving.

To find proper rest, we must establish Spirit-led boundaries for the soul. Even Jesus, though surrounded by needs, often withdrew to pray and be alone with the Father (Luke 5:16). A lamp cannot continue to shine if it is never refilled with oil. Likewise, believers who never pause for prayer, reflection, and renewal will eventually find their spiritual, emotional, and physical strength depleted. Wisdom sometimes means saying "no" to good things to say "yes" to God's best.

Saying yes to a closer walk with the Lord is always a good thing. Jesus did not merely promise relief from burdens; He invited us into a relationship with Himself. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me... and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). A branch remains fruitful not by striving harder but by abiding in the vine (John 15:4). In the same way, our strength is renewed when we remain close to Christ.

When life becomes overwhelming, do not run faster, draw nearer. Rest is not found merely in stopping work but in resting your heart in the presence of God. There, the weary soul finds peace, renewal, and strength for the journey ahead.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of true rest. Forgive me for relying on my own strength and carrying burdens You have invited me to surrender. Teach me to practice Sabbath rest, establish wise boundaries, and abide closely in Your presence. Renew my mind, refresh my spirit, and restore my joy. Let Your peace guard my heart and give me strength for each day. In Jesus' name, Amen…..NBM

When Suffering Persists

“For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.”(1 Peter 2: 20)

Suffering comes in different forms, and believers must learn to approach it with faith and wisdom. Sometimes suffering begins with our own wrong choices. Even after genuine repentance, some consequences may remain for a season. David was forgiven after his sin, yet some painful consequences continued (2 Samuel 12:13-14). Like a driver who receives forgiveness for causing an accident but must still repair the damage, believers may experience lingering effects of past mistakes. Yet repentance restores fellowship with God and opens the door to His healing grace.

There is also suffering that comes from doing what is right. Joseph was sold into slavery because of his integrity. Daniel was thrown into the lions' den because of his faithfulness. Most importantly, Jesus suffered though He was without sin. Scripture says, “But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed” (1 Peter 3:14). Not all suffering is a sign of God's displeasure; sometimes it is evidence of faithfulness to Him.

How should believers cope with suffering? First, remain anchored in God's promises. “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Second, continue in prayer, casting every burden upon the Lord (1 Peter 5:7). Third, maintain fellowship with God's people, who can provide encouragement and support. Finally, keep an eternal perspective. Paul reminds us that “the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18, NKJV).

God may not remove every trial immediately, but He promises His presence, His strength, and His ultimate victory. Take heart; your suffering is not wasted in His hands.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your presence in every season of suffering. Help me to trust You when I face the consequences of past mistakes and when I suffer for doing what is right. Strengthen my faith, guard my heart from discouragement, and remind me of Your unfailing promises. Give me grace to persevere, wisdom to learn, and hope to look beyond present trials to the glory You have prepared. In Jesus' name, Amen…NBM
