Annual St. Aidan feast day gathering!

Sunday, Aug. 30 from 1:00pm to 5:30pm

This year the picnic will be at a parish member's house in Wasa. They have a great yard to relax and visit and room for our mandatory bouncy castle!

Divine Liturgy in Cranbrook at the regular 10:30am and then directly out to Wasa after Liturgy. We will be serving a feast day Vespers with Litya back at the Church at 6:00pm for those who can come.

Rather than bringing your regular pot-luck offering downstairs, please bring a salad, dessert, appetizer, refreshments....to add to the Church supplied hamburgers and hot dogs we will be barbequing. As well we will bring out a big coffee urn from the church and provide paper plates and serving utensils and some juice for the kiddos.

If anyone could bring an extra barbeque that would be great. Be sure to bring your own chairs or blankets to sit on. Anyone interested in helping with set-up and clean up, that too would be great!

Any questions, give Fr Andrew a call.

Archdiocese of Canada (OCA) Assembly, Calgary, July 13-17, 2026

This is a very rare opportunity, to have the Assembly so close to us. The Canadian OCA Church only gatherers as a body once every 3 years. It alternates between the East and the West - the last Assembly was in Montreal in 2023. This is the first one ever in Calgary and you can easily attend for less than $1000 including everything: meals and accommodation. I strongly encourage you to attend if you can, it is something you can't describe, only experience, to gather with our entire Canadian Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in unity!

There is a program of youth events for Assembly, open to youth in grades 7-12. On both Wednesday and Thursday, July 15 and 16, there will a speaker session in the morning (no cost) followed by an off-campus recreational event in the afternoon (additional cost).

Fr. Stephen Siniari writes wonderful Orthodox fiction short stories based around experiences in his fictrional parish of St. Alexander the Whirling Dervish(which in turn is based largely on his decades of Orthodox ministry in the parish and on the street). He is one of my favorite Orthodox authors. We have all 3 of his books in our church library if you want to check out some great short stories. I'm looking forward to tuning in to his new weekly short story offering.

When asked why he is focusing on Orthodox fiction stories on YouTube, Father Stephen’s response was: Our Master used parables to teach and so, it seemed good to use parables as a means to introduce Orthodoxy to an American audience who may or may not be in the Church.

Humans need more than just facts. We need stories we can relate to. Stories that engage us. Stories that inspire us. An appreciation for fiction is engrained in us by Our Creator. Humans have always gathered to tell stories to each other.

This channel is a collection of fictional short stories about faith and everyday life in a Philadelphia neighborhood called Fishtown. Central to the stories are an Orthodox Christian Church called Saint Alexander the Whirling Dervish Parish and the Priest, Fr. Naum. Everyone has a story to tell and....

We will be having a special Pentecost blessing to bring in a number of new catechumen's who have been attending St. Aidan's for awhile, taking in the Ortho 101 course, and doing other pre-catechumen education.

This short service will be at the back of the Church and will start right before Divine Liturgy at 10:15am on Sunday, May 31. If you arrive during the Catechumen prayers in the Narthex, please proceed to either find a spot to observe or make your way quietly around the group and into the Nave. Hours will also start 15 minutes earlier at about 9:50am.

Remember we will also be blessed after lunch to be able to celebrate the special Vespers service with the kneeling prayers of Pentecost from 2pm to 3pm.

New St. Aidan Young Adults Group - Sat. June 6

For any (19 to 40 yr. old) young adults that would be interested in getting together occasionally, there is a 1st gathering planned for the 1st Saturday on June 6.

The plan is to gather at the community forest in the morning, pick a trail, and commence on a group hike. After the hike we could gather at Tim Hortons or somewhere to visit before heading home.

If you think you may be interested in joining in or just want more info or have some suggestions, please contact us.
