Congratulations Bruce!! $14, 700 WOW!

We always love catching up with Bruce!

This past Saturday, Bruce was at the Minden Farmers’ Market selling his beautifully handcrafted birdhouses, each one made with care and a commitment to giving back to the community.

Since August 2024, Bruce has raised an incredible $14,700 through birdhouse sales, donating proceeds to support local charities, including:
• Minden United Church
• Terry Fox Foundation
• Minden Food Bank
• HHHS Foundation in support of Hyland Crest Long-Term Care

Bruce’s generosity is making a real difference in our community, one birdhouse at a time. 🏡🐦

Loving God,
parent and companion to us all,
hold the precious children and young people in your loving care
as they begin a new school year.

Nurture in them a sense of wonder.
Keep their curiosity alive,
their imaginations wide,
and their hearts open to the joy of discovering something new.

May the spark of creativity, possibility, and adventure
continue to burn brightly within them.
Give them courage to ask questions,
freedom to dream,
and confidence to become who they are meant to be.

Surround them with people who see their worth
and meet them with kindness, patience, and respect.
Protect them from harm,
from cruelty and fear,
and from words and ideas that diminish the dignity of others.

And may they be a source of kindness, courage, and welcome to those around them.

Bless them as they learn and grow,
as they make friends, face challenges,
discover their gifts, and find their own light.

May they shine in the ways that are uniquely theirs—
and may every child be surrounded by the love, care,
and hope they need to flourish.

Our August 16 service was based around the theme of love versus greed. Using the inspiration found in the movie "The Mission" we explored the Christian response to power that destroys. In her sermon, "Vengeance, Greed, Forgiveness, Love" Nancy reflected on the passage 1 Corinthians 13, "the love chapter".

This Sunday is FIELD TRIP SUNDAY.

We encourage you to attend a neighbouring church. Let them know you are visiting from Ebenezer for the day. The local United Churches - Faith United Church (Courtice, ON) in Courtice, St Paul's - St Andrew's in Bowmanville and Enniskillen-Tyrone in the village of Tyrone each have a service starting at 10:30am.

We have let their minister know that there might be guests from Ebenezer.

In the movie, 'Chocolat' the mysterious Vianne and her child arrive in a tranquil French town. Through her delicious chocolates and her ability to see her customers' desires she uproots the traditions so familiar to the townspeople and opens them up to temptations - just as Lent begins. Nancy's reflected on it and the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) in her sermon, 'Living in the Tension'. We will welcome Robynne Smith to the keyboard while Tracy is away.

On Sunday, August 2nd we began our month-long series with themes from a movie. The movie The Lion King includes Christian themes of good and evil, forgiveness and reconciliation, defeat and victory. In her sermon "Shadow and Light" Nancy explored the faith response to life's setbacks.

These movies are ones that can open conversation on our faith and how we live it. The movie will be shown prior to the Sunday when it will be the basis of the sermon.
