Last Sunday this announcement was made official my time serving at Trinity is coming to an end. “Bishop Townshend has accepted the request of the Reverend Hilton Gomes to resign as the Rector of Trinity, Cottam, effective 30 June 2026. Hilton continues as the Rector of the Church of the Redeemer, Colchester North and St. Stephen’s, Oldcastle.”
As I reflect on these almost five years of ministry among you, my heart is filled with gratitude to God for the privilege of serving alongside you. Thank you for welcoming me and my wife Sandy, into your church family, for your faith, friendship, encouragement, generosity, and commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Together we have worshipped, prayed, cried, celebrated joys, faced challenges, marked milestones, and sought to follow God’s call for our parish. Through it all, I have witnessed your love for one another, your care for the community, and your desire to remain faithful to Christ. Serving as your priest has been a blessing and an honour that I will always cherish. My prayers for the Trinity family are that you will continue to grow in faith, hope, and love; that you will remain united in purpose and open to the leading of the Holy Spirit; that you will be strengthened for the ministry God has entrusted to you; and that future generations will find in Trinity a welcoming place where they can encounter the love and grace of Jesus Christ. May God bless each member of this congregation, your families, your leaders, and all who worship within these walls. May Trinity Anglican Church continue to be a beacon of faith, compassion, and service in the community for many years to come. Thank you for allowing me to walk this part of the journey with you. You will always remain in my prayers. With gratitude and affection in Christ, before I forgot yada, yada, yada… Trinity, you know what that means 😂
