2025 was a special year for the Alumni Association, as we also granted the Hall of Fame award to Walter Weber.
Walter is a 1964 Honours graduate of Olds School of Agriculture (OSA), dedicating his life to advancing agriculture and enriching his community. Inspired by the animal husbandry program, he developed a purebred Yorkshire Hog herd.
After graduation, Walter returned to the family farm near Castor, Alberta. In 1970, he earned a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Alberta, completing it in three years thanks to credits from Olds. In 1976, he and his wife established their own purebred herd and co-founded Weber Farms Ltd. with his family, achieving major wins at Calgary Stampede and Farmfair, and representing Alberta’s swine industry in Mexico, the Maritimes, and Asia.
Walter has served as President of both the Alberta and Canadian Swine Breeders Associations, and Chair of the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation. Also 13 years as County Councillor, long-standing Chair of Knox United Church, 40+ years with Castor Little Theatre, and countless roles in senior care, housing, emergency services, and youth development.
