The Father Saw First

Luke 15:20 says, “But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him…” Before the son spoke, before he confessed, before he reached the porch, the father saw him. That one phrase opens a beautiful window into the heart of a godly father. The prodigal had wasted his substance, wounded his family, and wandered into shame, yet the father’s eyes were still watching the road. Father’s Day reminds us that a father’s love is not measured only by what he provides, but by how faithfully he watches, waits, and welcomes.

I. The Father Was Faithful
The father did not forget the son who had forgotten him. Though the boy had gone far, the father’s heart stayed near. He kept loving when there was no apology, no letter, and no promise of return. Faithful fathers do not stop caring when children drift. They keep praying when words fail and hoping when the road stays empty.

II. The Father Was Focused
The Bible says the father saw him “a great way off.” That means his eyes were already turned in the direction of mercy. He was not too busy to notice brokenness coming home. He saw beyond the dirt, the rags, and the failure. He saw his son. A godly father looks deeper than the damage and recognizes the soul beneath the sorrow.

III. The Father Was Forgiving
The father ran, fell on his neck, and kissed him. He did not meet him with a lecture, but with love. He did not demand payment before compassion. He received a repentant son with open arms. That is the heart of forgiveness: mercy moving before the full speech is finished.

The father saw first because love had never stopped looking.

PSALM 3:5 — HE SLEPT THROUGH IT

"I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me." — Psalm 3:5

Most people think peace comes when the battle ends.

David discovered peace in the middle of the battle.

His son was leading a rebellion against him. His enemies were multiplying. His kingdom was shaking. Nothing about his situation suggested rest.

Yet David says, "I lay down and slept."

Not because the danger was gone.

Not because the answers had arrived.

Not because tomorrow looked certain.

He slept because he had already taken the burden somewhere else.

Before David closed his eyes, he opened his heart. He cried out to the Lord and handed over what he could not carry. That is the difference between trust and anxiety. Anxiety keeps carrying what prayer was supposed to release.

Many of us ask God to take the weight, then spend the entire night checking whether He still has it.

David did not do that.

He entrusted his situation to God and rested in the character of the One holding it.

Then morning came.

"I awoke, for the Lord sustained me."

While David slept, God remained awake. While David rested, God watched. While David was powerless, God was faithful.

The same God who guarded David's night is guarding yours.

You do not need to stay awake to protect what God has promised to sustain.

Sleep is not weakness when your trust is in God.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is closing your eyes and leaving tomorrow in His hands.

HARD QUESTION

What are you still carrying that you told God you gave Him?

He slept through his troubles, not because they were small, but because the God who held him was greater than all of them.

Stop negotiating with the ceiling. Cast it. Sleep. Wake up. Worship.

You are worth searching for.

In Luke 15:8–10, Jesus tells of a woman who diligently searched for one lost coin until she found it. That is how valuable you are to God. Even when you feel forgotten, broken, or far away, Heaven has not stopped looking for you. God’s love pursues, restores, and rejoices over every soul that returns to Him. You are not a mistake, and you are not abandoned. The Lord sees your worth even when others do not. Never forget: if God searches for you, it is because you are precious to Him. Amen 🛐🕊️

You may have money, success, fame, possessions, and everything this world can offer. You may live in a beautiful house, drive expensive cars, and have the admiration of people. But if you do not have Jesus, what do you really have?

You may have money, success, fame, possessions, and everything this world can offer. You may live in a beautiful house, drive expensive cars, and have the admiration of people. But if you do not have Jesus, what do you really have?

One day, your wealth will be left behind. Your achievements will be forgotten. Your body will return to dust. And then you will stand before God.

The greatest tragedy is not to die poor; it is to die without Christ. The greatest loss is not losing the world; it is losing your soul.

Jesus did not come merely to improve your life—He came to save you from your sins and give you eternal life. The cross is God's invitation to repent and return to Him.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" — Mark 8:36

If Jesus is not the center of your life today, come to Him now. The world can satisfy your flesh for a moment, but only Jesus can satisfy your soul forever.

Come to Jesus and repent 🙏
