On July 26th St. James Lark Habour held their annual glower service. Ruth Travers shares a reflection of the services over the years.

“For our Anglican churches, an annual service is held in our cemeteries serving as fellowship with others who come to worship beside the resting places of our deceased loved ones. This service gives people a chance to remember our deceased loved ones while reconnecting with friends and acquaintances from near and far.

It’s been a tradition as long as I can remember in my 75 years and, in the community of Lark Harbour, Bay of Islands, cemetery service is one of our most attended services (if not the most attended).

People who live off the island usually check in early winter to find out the planned date for the upcoming summer service and schedule holidays around this time.

Our beautiful cemetery is located on a gently sloping hill in the heart of Lark Harbour, visible from most vantage points in the community.

For a week prior to the service, great care and pride is taken to prepare the gravesites of our loved ones with a vast array of colourful flowers, creating an explosion of colour to the space.

Ordinarily our cemetery service is attended by around 400 people who bring blankets and chairs on which to sit during the service. 2026 was no exception. Our graveyard was filled with a very large crowd amidst colourful blossoms to celebrate the glory of our Almighty Father in remembrance of those who’ve gone before us.” - Ruth Travers.

What a joyful day in the Parish of Grand Bay as Archbishop Fred Hiltz celebrated the Rite of Confirmation at in Cape Ray.

We give thanks for our Colton, Jemma and Summer as they publicly affirmed their faith and pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and strengthen them. It was a wonderful reminder of God’s faithfulness as we continue to witness lives being nurtured, faith deepened, and new chapters unfolding in the life of our Diocese.

Congratulations to our confirmands, their families, sponsors, and the parish community. May God continue to bless you all.

As we give thanks to God for 50 years of faithful witness, ministry, and mission in the Diocese of Western Newfoundland, we are pleased to share this letter announcing our upcoming diocesan anniversary celebrations.

This milestone offers us an opportunity to remember God’s faithfulness in the past, celebrate our present ministry together, and look with hope toward the future to which Christ calls us.

May this anniversary season be one of gratitude, renewal, and hope.

Last Sunday, the congregation of Holy Trinity in the Parish of Meadows marked a significant milestone as they celebrated 75 years of faithful worship, witness, and ministry.

The celebration brought together clergy who have served Holy Trinity over the years, clergy who continue to call the congregation home, parishioners, members of the wider community, and partners.

Together, we gathered around the Lord’s Table to celebrate the Holy Eucharist, giving thanks to God for generations of faithful service and for the many lives that have been shaped through the ministry of this congregation.

Following the service, the celebration continued with a wonderful lunch, where stories were shared, friendships renewed, and gratitude expressed for God’s faithfulness throughout the years.

We give thanks with the people of Holy Trinity for this remarkable anniversary and pray for God’s continued blessing upon the congregation.

May the same faith that has sustained this community for the past 75 years continue to inspire and strengthen its witness for generations to come.

Today we give thanks to God for the blessings of this land we call home. From coast to coast to coast, we celebrate the beauty of Canada’s people, cultures, languages, and landscapes, while also acknowledging our shared responsibility to continue building a nation marked by justice, reconciliation, compassion, and peace.

We pray for all who call Canada home: for our leaders, our Indigenous neighbours, newcomers seeking safety and belonging, those who serve our communities, and all who are experiencing hardship. May we be people who seek the common good, love our neighbours, and work together for a future where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

“Almighty God,
from whom all blessings come, we thank you for this country, our home. Increase our gratitude for your many gifts, our respect for this land and all its peoples, and our desire to work for the common good. Bless all who exercise authority in this nation, that they may govern with wisdom and justice. Grant that we, your people, may live together in peace, and be a blessing to one another; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
