Last Saturday, I had the joy of spending the afternoon with the Anglican Church Women of our Diocese at their Annual Conference at Killdevil Camp. We reflected together on the theme, “I will give you a new heart” from Ezekiel 36:26. There was prayer, laughter, honest conversation, stories, joys and hopes for the ministry that lies ahead.
But one small gesture stayed with me.
Somehow, one of the ACW members (Whom I will not mention)had found out that I love fruit cake. Knowing that I would be spending Saturday afternoon with them at Killdevil, she brought along a piece of fruit cake that she had made at home especially to share with me.
It was only a piece of cake, but it felt like so much more. It reminded me that ministry is often found in the small things: remembering someone, making something with your own hands, noticing what brings another person joy, and taking the time to say, “I thought of you.”
I left carrying a piece of fruit cake, and a reminder that small acts of love can sometimes say more than we realize.
To the mystery fruit-cake maker: thank you. You made my day. ❤️
