Why is it so difficult to talk about death?

We prepare for so many things in life, but often find ourselves unprepared for conversations about dying, grief, and what comes afterwards.

Faithful Endings: Death, Grief, and Hope is a new series of open conversations at St Laurence. We’ll make space to talk honestly about receiving a life-limiting diagnosis, preparing ourselves and those we love for death, and what can help us live with grief after someone has died.

This isn’t about being gloomy or morbid. It’s about making room for questions we often avoid — in a safe, compassionate and life-affirming space.

You don’t need to be a member of St Laurence, and you don’t need to come to every session. Come to one or come to all four.

Could you help make Coffee Time happen? ☕

Coffee Time after our 10:30 am service is about much more than coffee. It’s where newcomers are welcomed, friendships grow, and we have time simply to enjoy being together.

This autumn, we’re putting together Coffee Time teams — and we’d love some new people to join in. You don’t have to do everything: making coffee, bringing something simple to share, setting out cups, welcoming people, or helping clear up all make a difference.

We’re also looking for one or two people willing to help lead and encourage a team.

Another year and another Vacation Bible School with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Massive thank you to all the volunteers and of course the children. We had craft, science, games, story and snack stations to speak of the nature of God. ✝️🙏 we learned Great Big God as well, in this audio.

The final Rector’s Rounds took us almost to the same place we started in Westwood Plateau! This time to Delia’s home and we had High Tea. A great selection of things to eat 😋 and conversation was flowing!! Thanks to all who helped today and for all those who have made the Rector’s Rounds the success it has been 🙏🙏

Tuesday night we hit Port Moody again and this time to the home of Lorraine. She cooked a fabulous meal for us all and we enjoyed conversation on her deck before and after. As always great conversation, people and hospitality - thanks so much, Lorraine 🙏🙏

The penultimate week of Rector’s Rounds and we return to Port Coquitlam and to Joan’s lovely home. Aside from Philip, this was an all female gathering … but they tolerated him well enough 🤣.

A lovely curated supply of food was offered in style.

So many stories shared and we were struck about how many strong women rose above the many challenges they faced.

Thank you Joan and to all who came, it was wonderful.
