We are devastated and deeply grieving the tragic loss of life at Tumbler Ridge. Our hearts ache for the school community, for the educators, administrators, friends, and families whose lives have been forever changed. Lord, bring supernatural comfort to every person who have been affected by this tragedy.
We lament the violence that has come to our community. This tragedy shakes something foundational in us—our assumption that our children are safe in their schools, that such violence happens elsewhere, not here. Lord, we bring you the loss of that sense of safety.
We acknowledge the weight of compounded grief. Many of us carry sorrow from other tragedies near and far—violence in communities across the world, ongoing conflicts, losses that haven’t yet healed. This fresh heartbreak lands on ground already tender.
When the heartbreak feels unbearable, when the questions of our young people have no easy answers, and when senseless violence shatters our sense of safety, we turn to you Lord. We bring you our questions, our grief, our longing for a safer world. We confess we don’t understand.
Lord, be our refuge and our strength. Be near to those who are mourning. Heal what feels broken beyond repair, and wrap this community in your mercy and peace. Sustain us when hope is difficult. Give us courage to work toward the world you intend—where children are safe, where life is protected, where peace prevails. Lord, have mercy.
