Comox Community Garden

Comox Community Garden "Let's Grow!" is Comox Pentecostal Church's community garden located at 1919 Guthrie Rd.

This is a community garden started by members of Comox Pentecostal Church to serve our neighbours and provide a practical demonstration of Christ's love and compassion. Initial plots were available on a first come first serve basis and there is a waiting list at present for new plots. One large plot is reserved for growing food for local food banks and there are also some areas for communal plants and herbs. We are excited to provide a place to grow healthy food, bodies, and relationships!

Shout out to Tim Hortons on Anderton and Guthrie for donating coffee and donuts to our volunteers and gardeners for our spring kickoff and garden expansion work day this past Saturday. Local Pizza @ same location also gave us a discount on our pizzas. What a great treat after a lot of hard work!

A big thanks to the Comox Valley Community Foundation for a grant we've used to expand the garden! This Saturday we will finish the final touches (move/add to the fence, rake out a LOT of mulch, install a shed)... come by and lend a hand for our community! Also, we have a few of the new plots left for use, let me know if you're interested in more information!

Hey everyone! Looking for some help to deliver our communal garden produce to the food bank in Courtenay 1-1491 McPhee Ave. It’s only about once every 2 weeks that I expect to need someone. I have been recruiting my family but thought if anyone is heading out in that direction and could drop a couple bags off periodically-it would be great! You can send me an email at [email protected]. Thanks! Erin

If all gardeners can do their best to have their areas weeded by Wednesday evening May 19 - that would be awesome! We have the students from Gaglardi school coming out Thursday May 20 at 9 am for a few hours to spread out our new mulch. Please do your gardening before or after to help to give us some space to move!

Wow! Spring is here in full bloom. So fun to go by the garden and see what is coming up. Thank you so much for all those who have helped out already tidying up the communal spaces. It’s looking great! There are still some weeds coming up in the SE corner that it would be great to get some help with. We have some students from Gaglardi Academy coming in May to help spread some fresh mulch and should tackle the weeds first. Also please remember that there is fresh compost in the parking lot to add to your boxes. Happy Gardening!

Happy rainy Thursday! Compost has been delivered and is covered with a tarp to prevent it from getting too waterlogged. Please help yourself to top up the soil in your garden and cover it back up when you are done. If you need help loading compost into your garden, please let us know. Remember to use hand sanitizer before and after using communal tools like the shovels and wheelbarrow. Also please help yourself to herbs in the square box directly inside the gate- there's rosemary, chives and thyme and a bit of sage ready. Let the gardening begin!

Getting super excited about spring! Looking forward (as always) to seeing everyone's creativity and dedication in action. So thankful that this is an activity we can still participate in safely.

Remember past gardeners to please let Esther know if you aren't going to be able to manage your plot this year, as we again have a waiting list. Garden fees are due today!

Compost delivery is planned for March 18. There won't be a formal work day due to COVID but please come and help your self to top up your plot and spend a little time towards cleaning up and beautifying the communal areas.

We would still like to have an early season meeting and can do this in small distanced groups or by Zoom. Please let Esther know what you would prefer.

We are also working on getting a new and more permanent sign made and hopefully can have this up in the next couple of weeks.

Please remember not to help yourself to anyone's garden unless you have clearly been offered. The herbs and rhubarb outside the fence are communal, as are the raspberries inside the west fence, but please remember they are to be shared with us all. We will also work to make up some clear signs for the two communal boxes inside the garden. If in doubt, please ask first. ☺️

Lastly, we are hoping to use this page to connect with each other and share photos and gardening questions or tips. This could also be a place to ask for help watering your garden while you are away or to let people know if you have some extra seeds/starters or produce to share.

Thank you for all you do to make our garden wonderful!
