Subject: Charitable Status Issue

Hi. I have been slowly working behind the scenes to discuss the attack on faith-based organizations and here is what I have found out.

Last week and over the weekend I was in touch with 3 different federal Liberal candidates regarding the charitable status issue. The two Liberal MP's are the two busiest MP offices in Canada and I know them. I brought the MFSC letter to them and discussed the issue individually. Both of them are high profile in the community and they both assured me that they would never support such a policy to remove charitable status from faith-based organizations.

The third individual is a newcomer in my riding. I visited her open house a couple of weekends ago and left the MFSC letter with her, which was immediately shared with the outgoing Cabinet Minister, Carla Qualtrough, who was in attendance and is also high profile in the community. I received a phone call on the weekend from the new candidate because she wanted to report back to me that she had taken the issue up with the Liberal party policy makers. Her statement to me...The Liberals are not developing any sort of platform on this matter. I encouraged her to put this in front of Mark Carney and assured her that his response would go out through the interfaith network. She said she was going to be on it the moment she hung up.

Okay, I have done my best on this topic. I am feeling that this issue would not get passed in the Parliament. Much of the support for these candidates comes from various faith communities and I have their word that they would not support such a change. If anyone else has anything to report on this matter, please let me know. As a refresher, I have attached the council's letter.
