Sept. 6th was Blessing of the Backpacks as our kids return to school. It was great to see the three children wearing their backpacks and getting a blessing from Fr. Austyn. We wish them all a safe and happy school year ahead.

On Sept. 6th, the Parish of Churchill and Cookstown will be blessing the Backpacks during regular services, St. Peter's in Churchill, 6254 Yonge St, at 9:15 am and St. John's, 29 Church Street, in Cookstown at 11:15 am. Everyone is welcome to attend and children are encouraged to wear their backpacks.
Sunday school is also provided during both services.

We had our combined service on August 30th @ St. Peter's with St. John's as our guests. A good time was had by all. So good to get together.

On Thursday, August 27th, Vicki from St. John's Church in Cookstown and Linda from St. Peter's in Churchill, delivered some backpacks and school supplies for the Community for Kids outreach. They were just setting up and many volunteers were arriving along with lots of supplies. It was wonderful to see how the community comes together for this most important project. Thanks to Debra and her crew for all their hard work.

As I was reading the prayer this morning in The Daily Bread, it mentioned actor Denzel Washington (who doesn't love Denzel) who encouraged a group of actors to begin each day with prayer, suggesting they "put your shoes way under the bed at night" to ensure they "gotta get on your knees in the morning." Simply truth. Prayer may take some creative planning, but it's a practice that has sustained God's people throughout history.

We attended a delicious Peach Supper on August 14th at our sister church, St. John's in Cookstown. The food was fantastic. A big thank you to The ROOTED FOODERY, located at 25 King St., S. in Cookstown and ALEXIOUS FARMS, in Beeton for donating food toward the supper. They also wanted to thank everyone who came and supported them. Volunteers are wonderful and certainly stepped up that evening. We had a fabuous time. Thanks everyone.
