Happy New Years Eve!

I hope that you’ve had a joyful Christmas season since we were together on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.

New Years is an interesting time, since nothing really changes between December 31 and January 1, it’s just another day.

But, Christians redefine this time of year as a declaration of faith that God came into past as Jesus Christ the child, and has renewed the future, your future, as our saviour resurrected.

As Steve Bell has written, our past guilt is replaced with faith in God’s redeeming action, and fear of the unknown future is replaced with hope because of the resurrection.

This New Year make the declaration that you will follow Jesus and trust his path because you believe him when he says, “I am making all things new!” (Rev 21:5).

If you are available this afternoon you’re invited to join us in the YUM Church basement for New Year’s Eve Games from 3:00-5:00.
Come on out for an informal time of games and potluck snacks for young and old!

Let's continue to pray for one another, the lowering water levels in Sumas Prarie and the energy levels of those working overtime to serve us as farmers, first responders and disaster response workers. 🙏🏻

*Take a deep breath*

Sit and breath deeply, 10 breaths - count to 4 breathing in, and 6 breathing out.

Then pray out loud, under your breath or with a friend:

God of our hearts and minds,
God of our nervous systems,
as our eyes and ears try to take in another day of news,
our little bodies absorb the shock
of the biggest event of our lives.
Help us make sense
of what we honestly feel.
Fear. Loneliness. Exhaustion. Anger.
And in naming what lives in
our most inner selves,
may we grow more human
with each other:
warm-blooded and social, communicative and relational, present to nurse, eager to soothe the people we more fully can be.
Amen.

Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
