Chesterville Public School Grade 5's are coming on Thursday to plant the FAITH Garden and I think we're finally ready. It took a little longer this year to pull it all together but we're there! Thanks to many generous donors of tomato, pepper, cabbage, broccoli, and zucchini plants to name a few, many packets of seeds, garden beds donated by Nick's Landscaping, Embrun, close to 100 lbs of seed potatoes donated by Julie Barkley of Williamsburg, an apple tree donated by Laurie Lannin and the Domino Divas - yup - I think we're ready for Thursday! Stay tuned for more photos of the students planting. And there's a sneak peek in the photos of some of the plants that will be at our plant sale on Saturday! We have over 100 pots to go.

Due to a death in her family, Rev. Mary Royal-Duczek has had to postpone her speaking engagement at Christ Church United on June 6th. We send Rev. Mary and her family our condolences. A new date will be announced as soon as it is scheduled.

Our Open House will continue has planned on June 6th. Please come and tour our Church and the FAITH Pantry. We are also hosting a large plant sale of indoor and outdoor plants.

A huge shout out to The Gathering House for their generous donation of groceries! The Gathering House has been very supportive of the FAITH Pantry with regular donations of groceries and providing meals on Wednesday evenings. Christine VanDenBroek, Office Manager at TGH, delivered their most recent donation on Friday, May 29th. On hand to receive the donation were two of our youngest Pantry volunteers Raymond and Everly Cross. THANK YOU!

The FAITH Garden is open for the season! Gordon Smith spread the fertilizer on the garden last evening and came over this morning to do the ploughing.

Mme Carriere's Grade 5 class from Chesterville Public School showed up in the afternoon to pick rocks, clean up the flower bed, plant rhubarb and onions, move the raised garden beds and organize the buddy benches. It was a full afternoon of gardening and fun. They took a short break at the end of the afternoon for a well-deserved popsicle. They'll return in 2 weeks to do more planting. Thank you for all your help - we couldn't do it without you!!

Thank you to Ms. Jennifer Ganter for helping to organize a school-wide food drive at St. Marys Catholic School in Chesterville. Ms. Ganter's Grade 1-2 Class did a classroom food drive in April, and then expanded it to a school wide food drive in May collecting 303 lbs of food! The students paraded over to the FAITH Pantry each carrying a food item, followed by a wagon full of food. It was a beautiful and somewhat emotional time knowing we have built another wonderful partnership. Thank you St. Mary's Catholic School!! With the increase in gas prices AND groceries, you couldn't have picked a better time to help us stock our shelves.

THANK YOU to Mme Carriere and her Grade 6 class who joined us today to do some cooking and baking for the clients who use our FAITH Pantry. They came prepared to work! Within two hours they made pumpkin muffins, pumpkin dump squares, sweet potato pie and a spiced carrot soup.

There is little food that goes to waste in the Pantry. If there is a product that is not being picked up, i.e. canned pumpkin, we then use it to make something that the clients will enjoy. Apples that may not be great for eating out of your hand get peeled and cut for apple crisp, apple pie, or apple sauce. When we get extra oatmeal on hand we use it for oatmeal cookies or muffins. Everything gets used. And it is easy to do with the great help we get from these students.

Some of the students set up a workstation to paint rocks that will be used as decor in the flowerbed they made last summer. They are all full of energy and ideas! Thank you!!
