Biographical History:
Chemainus was served by a missionary at Cowichan during the early 1860s. By 1866, a resident priest was assigned to Chemainus, Chemainus Mill and Salt Spring Island. The Church of St. Michael was built in 1891 and consecrated on August 29, of that year. Chemainus and Westholme parishes were subsequently paired and were affiliated with Cedar from 1895 until 1897, when Cedar was separated. Chemainus was served by the Archdeacon for Victoria in 1899 and by the Assistant Curate of Christ Church Cathedral in 1901, followed once again by the Archdeacon. Chemainus, Crofton and Westholme were formed into a parish in 1907. In 1928, the parish was known as "St. Michael's, Chemainus and All Saints', Westholme with Crofton." The Church of All Saints' was destroyed by fire in the late 1970s. (Services have continued in a church hall at Crofton.) As of 1986 (and earlier?) the congregation was served with the congregation of All Saints, Westholme. As of 1995 it was titled St. Michael and All Angels, Chemainus with All Saints, Westholme / Crofton. Donations can be made in any one of the following three ways while we cannot gather for in-person worship:

1. Mailing to St Michael & All Angels at Box 463, Chemainus, BC V0R 1KO

2. Placing your donation in an envelope and in the letter slot immediately to the right of the main door into the church. It is a secure lock box inside.

3. Online banking e-transfer at [email protected]

"Thank you" to everyone who celebrated St. Francis Day, Blessing of the Animals with us!

Rev. Dr. Norman Knowles was gleeming as he welcomed all the furry, four legged visitors, big and small, to
St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Parish.

There's a series of 4 mini reels, of this special Celtic Service. Tail wags, lots of licks, and playfulness filled the Church aisle this joyful day!

The mule, Oh Henry, was brought by owner, Zoe MacBean. He was shy about entering the Church, but enjoyed the attention in the courtyard and sidewalk on Willow and Mill Street. We informed Gloria, he only ate one flower in the Church garden!🌸🌿

Tourists were quite thrilled to see Oh Henry on the sidewalk and cute doggies prancing out of the church, as they took photos of Downtown Chemainus.

We were all blessed with a sunshine day, the Holy Spirit, and smiles all around.🐾
