Should I attend Sabbath School?

Attending Sabbath school is not merely a duty; it is one of the greatest missionary tools that can “bring souls to a knowledge of the truth” and “awaken in them a love for its sacred truths” so that they may “regulate their lives by its holy teachings”.

Participation in a regular Sabbath‑school will cultivate a deeper, more personal faith, and help encourage faith in the experience of your fellow students.

Studying the lesson and learning together will help build your knowledge of the Bible lessons and history, and develop your spirituality. Memorizing key Bible passages will help anchor God’s thoughts in your mind and heart. The truths of God’s word will open more and more to your understanding, and you will increasingly grasp the fuller meaning of the passages studied.

Children as well as parents should participate in Sabbath school, and should study their lessons during the week. Prioritizing study of the lesson will help all family members develop and maintain spirituality.

Contemplation of God’s word builds good character, and teachers should encourage everyone to love God and follow His requirements. Teachers themselves should be good examples of a life and character shaped by the Bible.

The Sabbath school should also encourage evangelistic activities to share God’s message with friends and neighbors, as well as all the nations of the earth.

"Bear in mind that Jesus is afflicted in all our afflictions. He became in our behalf a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. You are being brought into profound sympathy with the fellowship of the sufferings of Christ as you are partakers of His sufferings. You will be sharers of His glory, which will be revealed. Let the grasp of your faith become more firm, and the measure of your love for Jesus deeper and more abiding.

The Lord permits great trials to come upon His loved ones. He tries them as gold. Now is your opportunity to show that you do trust in your Redeemer, even though in the crucible of affliction. Be cheerful. Let your cheerfulness be seen in your countenance, because you have Jesus by your side, to watch with you. You may converse with Jesus. You may say, “The Lord is my helper. I shall not be moved.” [Hebrews 13:6; Psalm 62:6.] You may find blessed opportunities to speak to some soul words of courage, and sow seed that will spring up and bear fruit. Let all see in whom you place your trust."—Letters and Manuscripts, volume 11 (1896), Letter 16, 1896, par. 12

Try to share love for Jesus on this Sabbath!
