🧭✨ PETER, STOP RECALCULATING! ✨🧭
Join us today — Sunday, August 30 — at 9:30 a.m. at St. James the Apostle in Carp for worship, Communion, community… and a little conversation about what happens when we decide we know a better route than Jesus. 😇
In today’s Gospel, Peter has gone from getting it exactly right — “You are the Messiah!” — to essentially telling Jesus:
“Yes, Lord… but have you considered another route?” 😂
Sound familiar?
Sometimes we’re quite happy to follow God — as long as God is heading in the direction we already planned! But Jesus invites us to something deeper: to loosen our grip on control, ego, resentment and our need to be right, and instead choose the road of love, kindness, forgiveness, peace and grace. ❤️
And Paul gives us one of the best directions we could possibly follow:
🌿 Let love be genuine.
🤝 Live peaceably with one another.
❤️ Care for those around you.
✨ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Taking up our cross isn’t about becoming miserable Christians who look as though someone cancelled coffee hour. ☕😳
It’s about discovering the abundant life Jesus is leading us toward.

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on what it means to truly follow Jesus, even when the road doesn’t look the way we expected.

It’s easy to want to take control, find a different route, or insist we know best. But Jesus invites us to let go of our need to have all the answers and instead live with genuine love, compassion, hospitality, and kindness.

Sometimes faith means trusting the journey, even when we’d really like to hit “recalculating.” 😊

📖❤️ **“Who do you say that I am?”**

That’s the question Jesus puts to his disciples in Matthew 16 — and it’s a question that still reaches right into our own lives today.

Peter, in wonderfully Peter-like fashion, doesn’t overthink it. While the others might still be carefully forming their answer, Peter’s heart gets there first:

**“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”**

This week, Rev. Bob reflects on what it means to move faith from **head… to heart… to hands**. 🧠❤️🙌

How do we move from simply knowing things *about* Jesus to actually knowing, trusting, and following him?

And what does our answer look like in the way we live — through compassion, courage, generosity, forgiveness, and the gifts God has given each of us?

There’s even a little **Abbott and Costello “Who’s on First?”** humour along the way. 😂⚾

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on a question Jesus asks each of us: “Who do you say that I am?”

Faith is more than what we’ve heard from others. It’s something we each come to discover for ourselves, and ultimately, it shapes how we live, love, serve, and care for one another.

We’re reminded that we all have different gifts to offer. Some teach, some encourage, some serve, some lead, and some simply show compassion. What matters is that we use what we’ve been given to make a difference.

As a community, we’re invited to consider not only who Jesus is to us, but how that answer might change the way we live each day.

💦🕊️ BAPTISM SUNDAY — TODAY AT 9:30 A.M.! 🕊️💦
Join us this morning at St. John’s Sixth Line for a joyful parish-wide celebration of Baptism Sunday! ⛪👶✨
And yes… Rev. Bob is back from holidays — rested, recharged, and hopefully remembering where he left his sermon notes. 😄📖☕️
Today’s Gospel introduces us to a wonderfully determined woman who refuses to give up on Jesus. She knows that even the crumbs from God’s table contain more grace than she could ever need. 🍞❤️
And at baptism, we discover something even better:
✨ God doesn’t offer us crumbs — God welcomes us to the table. ✨
This morning we’ll celebrate the baptism of Caleb Peter Barron, renew our own baptismal promises, gather around the font, share Eucharist, and remember some very important words:
💙 You are loved.
🏠 You belong.
✝️ You are Christ’s own for ever.
And when the congregation is asked whether we’ll support Caleb in his life in Christ, we already know the answer:
🙌 WE WILL — WITH GOD’S HELP!

This Sunday, we’ll gather in celebration as we welcome Caleb Peter Barron through the sacrament of baptism.

Baptism reminds us that God’s grace is abundant, that we are loved, that we belong, and that faith is a journey we share together. As a community, we promise to walk alongside Caleb as he grows, offering encouragement, support, and love along the way.

We look forward to sharing this special morning of worship, joy, and fellowship.

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on finding hope in the midst of life’s storms.

We all face moments of uncertainty, fear, and challenges that can feel overwhelming. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us to “Take heart… do not be afraid.” Even when our faith feels fragile, Christ is always near, reaching out with love, strength, and hope.

As a community, we are reminded that we don’t have to face life’s waves alone. Together, we can encourage one another, trust in God’s presence, and find peace even in difficult times.

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on a simple but powerful reminder: God can do extraordinary things with what we are willing to offer.

When faced with a hungry crowd, the disciples saw only what they lacked. Jesus saw possibility. He took their small offering and, in God’s hands, it became more than enough.

We all have moments when we feel we don’t have enough to give. Yet Jesus reminds us that our time, kindness, faith, and gifts, no matter how small they seem, can make a difference when offered with love.
