Ready to support Nepal following flash floods

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Nepal following flash floods that swept through the Bhote Koshi River and Rasuwa district this morning, triggered by a landslide following an earthquake in the region.

The floods have caused significant loss of life, with dozens killed and hundreds still being accounted for, and have swept away homes, roads, bridges, and hydropower infrastructure across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts. Authorities are working to verify the whereabouts of hundreds of travelers, including many foreign nationals, as search and rescue operations continue.

We are relieved to confirm that all LWF World Service staff, as well as staff of the Nepal Evangelical Lutheran Church (NELC) and Lutheran Community Welfare Service (LCWS), are safe and accounted for.

The LWF is assessing the situation on the ground in order to provide those affected with the necessary response alongside our local partners.
