Fear filled Sahar’s* heart as she huddled in the corner of a small street restaurant along the bustling street market in the major city of Lahore.

She and her husband had shopped at the market many times before, but this time, something was terribly wrong. She soon found herself surrounded by a mob of two to three hundred men who were angry at her!

An AsiaLink medical team in Cambodia brought doctors, nurses, volunteers, pastors, medicine, and prayers teams together to touch 433 lives over a 3 day period. For many Cambodians this is their only opportunity to see a doctor and receive the medicine they desperately need. What incredible move of God to see 183 come to Faith in Jesus, along with many healings!

The Canadian postal strike has affected us all during the past few weeks. Bills and letters we were expecting have been delayed. Even though the strike has offically ended we have learned that it may take up to 1 to 2 months for the mail service to return to normal. A letter dropped in the mail now may not reach us till late January or February.

Despite this challenging time, there is good news: you can still make a year-end gift to AsiaLink that will enable us to touch the lives of our partners, workers and projects in Asia that need financial strengthening.

Once the mail returns to normal, you’ll receive our latest newsletter, which shares some amazing stories of what God is doing in Asia in the Muslim and communist world!...

In a matter of days, our Women’s Empowerment Conference will take place in a large Muslim city. We are expecting over 1,000 to attend, where they will hear dynamic preaching and teaching from as of the most influential and powerful Christian musical worship evangelists in this Muslim nation of 231 million will minister with his wife.

This unique conference has been one of the most effective ways of reaching Muslim women and nominal Christians who feel trapped in hopeless situations with the empowering message of God’s love!

Women in this Muslim country struggle to be treated fairly and equally. They constantly face the threat of domestic violence, emotional abuse, child marriage, and sexual harassment. Sadly, violence against women occurs daily behind closed doors. If you ask a woman if she is happy with her life, she will say: “I have a good husband. He doesn’t beat me.”

However, we’ve discovered that when women encounter Jesus and are radically changed from within by the affirming message of God’s love and purpose for them, they have an amazing desire to share this new message of God’s love with their husbands and family members. It’s extraordinary to see how God uses them!

WILL YOU HELP STAND IN THE GAP
Last week I received an URGENT message from our AsiaLink team stating that their efforts to raise their entire budget on their own has fallen short. They need our help to raise $2,782.00 to cover the budget shortfall for the 3-day Women’s conference.

These are poor people and they struggle to survive. Many Christians lost their jobs during the pandemic, as Muslims consider them as outcasts and unclean so they fired them for fear that Christians would spread Covid-19 to them.

One other major factor they are dealing with is runaway inflation. In Canada our inflation rate of 6.9% has made everything more expensive. Now imagine trying to live in this Muslim nation where the inflation rate is running at 27%. Yes, you read that correctly, 27%!

Despite these roadblocks, we believe our God is able to provide.

We are asking 28 of you, our friends and partners, to give $100 each to help cover all the expenses of this conference! Perhaps God may prompt you to give more so that more lives are touched with God’s love!

Will you stand in the gap for a woman who feels forgotten and cursed by God. Her life is hard and difficult, but you can help shine the light of God’s love into their darkness of unbelief that says God doesn’t care about me! Please send your best gift now so that they will know someone cares for them!

Thank you for being the hands of Jesus by making a difference in their lives by your prayers and by your gift!

We urgently need your help in the Muslim world! For the first time in 3 years since the pandemic began we will hold our Standing Strong Apologetic Seminar in central Pakistan in June. This Seminar is an incredible opportunity to see lives radically changed! We need your help to cover all the costs associated with this Seminar.

ABANDONED BY HIS FAMILY
Recently, I read the gripping story of a young Muslim man who it turns out was a direct descendant of Islam’s prophet Mohammad. Growing up in a privileged family he dreamed of making a difference with his life and thus he became an air force engineer. His life seemed destined until that fateful day that changed everything. He became horribly sick and was rushed to the hospital where doctors could do nothing for him. To his horror he lost all feeling in his lower body and became paralysed confined to a wheelchair.

Sadly, just when he needed his family the most they mysteriously abandoned him.

Instead of giving up on life he took up watch repair and gave private lessons free of charge to children close to where he lived.

During this time he met some Christians who took an interest in him and encouraged him. So touched by their unconditional and caring love, Tahir began to warm to the message of Jesus and began to study the unique claims of Christianity. For some time he debated what he should do until he made the ultimate choice to become a follower of Jesus.

Tahir became quite impassioned about his new found faith and this stirred up the anger of the local imam at the mosque who alleged Tahir was an apostate that had defiled a copy of the Qur'an by underlining verses and writing in the margin. Unknown to Tahir the local iman was also angry at the popularity Tahir had as a teacher, and his free lessons that made him a more popular teacher than the iman thus affecting the iman’s personal income.

THREATENED WITH DEATH
The imam went out of his way to begin a slander campaign against Tahir, which resulted in the Police having to rescue Tahir when a crowd of Muslim extremists threatened to murder him.

In order to protect Tahir police transferred him to a local prison. Unfortunately, He would never leave it. He was under incredible pressure to return to Islam. “They want me to say that I was forced to change my beliefs, that it was because of money, or for a good job, or to get a wife. They must know that I only changed my faith because I did find the Truth.”

For 6 long months no lawyer was willing to represent Tahir. Later, an application for bail was turned down by the courts. His physical health began to suffer.

During court hearings, Muslim clerics shouted slogans and threatened Tahir’s defence lawyer. The presiding judge reprimanded them for interfering in the court proceedings, but was then himself threatened with death and finally he transferred to another court. The imam of the large Badshahi mosque in Lahore publicly declared that apostates like Tahir should be killed.

During his blasphemy trial, Tahir was for some time held in solitary confinement in a cell without water, electricity or toilet facilities. It seemed everyone was against him - even his jail warden who threatened to kill him. Knowing there was a good chance he would be murdered in prison he wrote Pakistan’s prime minister and other officials but no one came to his aid. Shortly afterwards he began to vomit blood almost as if he were being poisoned. The end was near. After his death members of the Christian community voiced concern that Tahir may have been poisoned.

I was deeply moved when I read that when asked about the possibility of being hanged for blasphemy, he simply replied: “I will kiss my rope, but I will never deny my faith.” Tahir counted the cost of following Jesus.

YOU ARE NEEDED
That is the type of Jesus follower we are asking God to give us… young men and women who are willing to surrender their lives to God no matter the cost. Will you help us be the hands of Jesus helping to introduce Muslim, Hindu and nominal Christians who will attend our Apologetic Seminar to who Jesus really is? Your gift will make a huge difference in someone’s life!

In previous Apologetic Seminars, we have seen many Muslims and unbelievers come to faith, along with Christians who are under incredible pressure to convert to Islam find the strength and answers to remain faithful!

We have already raised part of the budget but need your help to raise the final $1,934 to cover the expense for all 300+ young adults and earnest seekers that will attend. Your gift, large or small, designated for this seminar will help change a young adult’s life and the impact they will make in other people’s lives.

Yours for Asia’s Harvest,

MUSLIM WIFE COMES TO FAITH
A MAN CAN’T DO THAT TO A WOMAN
Dear Friend,
Teaching in a medical college for Rania was a lifelong dream. She had achieved so much in her life already. Teaching young students eager to learn brought much personal fulfillment to her. She loved challenging their young minds on a daily basis. Through it all her husband, a man she deeply loved, was her support and strength.

Until now, the foundation guiding her life was her Muslim faith she had grown up with. Her ritual prayers and the comfort of her many Muslim friends and family gave her security and strength.

Her life felt perfect at times… teaching… being challenged… working with young dedicated students in an educational environment that was close to her heart… and enjoying the love of her family. She loved making a difference every day in someone’s life

THE DAY HER LIFE WAS SHAKEN
Yet, she wasn’t prepared for the day her life came crashing down upon her unravelling like a broken ribbon. The day her husband, the man she had committed her life to, the man she loved, approached her and told her he wanted to marry a second wife as allowed by Islam.

Stunned at hearing these words her body went into shock mode. She felt the floor beneath her give way as if it were quicksand swallowing her up. Her breathing became labored. Her thoughts began to race out of control, “no, no, this can’t be happening to me.” Over and over it played in her mind like an unstoppable nightmare.

Over the next days and weeks her broken heart gave way to moments of uncontained sorrow with weeping and tears. The dark clouds of anxiety, fear and depression hovered over her spirit. The will to live was quickly fading from her. Life had lost its appeal.

HER DESPERATION OPENS HER HEART
It was at this critical moment in her life that a Christian friend invited her to AsiaLink’s 2018 Women’s Empowerment Conference. Normally, she would have nothing to do with any Christian event. Yet, in her desperate state she said yes to attending.

As she sat listening to the speaker she heard a message of hope and purpose. Words that she desperately needed to hear. Then as the speaker finished speaking they invited those in need to come forward for prayer. Her heart bursting in pain… she pushed through the crowd to the front. Her broken heart cried out to God as she confessed her sins and believed in Jesus Christ. As she prayed she spoke these words “if you are Savior of all and for me then do a miracle for me [in restoring my marriage].”

As she went home that night God began to work as only He can. Over the next days and weeks God restored her husband’s love and commitment to her and she is happy and contented with her husband. He no longer talks of marrying a second wife and is fully committed to Rania.

So overcome at God answering her prayers Rania began to share her testimony with all her Muslim friends and family. She shares how she experienced a miracle from Jesus Christ in the restoration of her marriage. As a result another Muslim family of 7 have all come to faith and many other Muslims are now open to discovering who Jesus Christ is… and to think it wouldn’t have happened if someone here in Canada hadn’t help sponsor last year’s Women’s Empowerment Conference.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
Later this Friday and Saturday (November 8th – 9th) our AsiaLink’s Women’s Empowerment Conference will take place in the Muslim country of Pakistan bringing 300 to 400 women – Muslims, Hindus and nominal Christian – from across the region to a safe place where they will hear messages of hope and purpose for their lives. Already, countless numbers of woman have seen their lives radically changed and transformed.

We need your financial support to cover the cost for this life changing conference. We’ve raised thanks to generous partners most of the budget except for the last $1,475. Will you partner with the church in Pakistan by giving $100 or more? We are needing just 15 more people like you to give $100 each to help us reach our budget so that precious lives would be touched and transformed.

This is an incredible opportunity to plant seeds of hope in the precious lives of another Rania who has lost all hope. Thank you for being a difference maker!

11/08/2019

Shazia was enjoying her visit at her in-laws home, a welcome break from looking after her 6 children. Her life was so busy that she welcomed these rare moments away from her responsibilities. She was surprised when her husband suddenly showed up and asked her to follow him into another room so they could talk privately. Little did she know what awaited her.

Closing the door behind her he locked the door. At that moment he turned and grabbed her, shoving her roughly against the wall and began kicking and hitting her repeatedly.

MOTHER TO 6 CHILDREN ATTACKED
Shazia describes what happened next, “Then he picked up a metal pipe and started hitting me mercilessly”. Shazia’s husband suspected that his wife was having an extramarital relationship. “He kept asking about it while hitting me and wouldn’t listen to me even though I stressed that I wasn’t having any extramarital affair,” she said.

Then he pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her. Stunned at seeing the knife and what he was threatening to do Shazia lost all her strength. He grabbed her neck with his arm pulling her close and with one quick stroke cut off her nose before he stabbed her body. Her screams for help went unnoticed. Falling to the ground stunned at what at happened… Shazia’s husband fled the scene.

“He left me bleeding and crying for help,” she recalled. Taken to a local hospital doctors told her there was little they could do to fix her nose.

Shazia then shared that the police failed to arrest her husband and that “he came back to our area just the other day and told one of our neighbours that he chopped off my nose to teach me a lesson and save his honor, because he suspected me of meeting another man.” Shazia now lives with her mother and fears for her life.

ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS COUNTRIES FOR WOMEN
According to the Thomson Reuters Foundation 90% of Pakistani women experience domestic violence in their lifetime making Pakistan the 6th most dangerous country in the world to be a women. In Pakistan, the nose is considered a symbol of family honor, which is why women’s faces are often the target of assault when they’re perceived to have “shamed” the family in some way.

Yet in the midst of this negative environment of fear where there is little justice, there is a small and thriving AsiaLink ministry to women that is seeing lives changed, hope restored and healing experienced!

In just over a week’s time (November 8th -9th) AsiaLink’s Women’s Empowerment Conference will take place in the Muslim country of Pakistan bringing 300 to 400 women – whether Muslim, Hindu or nominal Christian – from across the region to a safe place where they will hear messages of hope and purpose for their lives. Already, countless numbers of woman have seen their lives radically changed and transformed by God’s grace at previous conferences.

We URGENTLY need your financial support to cover the cost for this upcoming conference. We have already raised 60% of the budget but still need to raise $2,000 to cover all the expenses needed to treat each woman in a caring and loving way. Your gift will help empower a woman’s life with the message of Christ who has lost all hope.

Will you help? If 20 people gave $100 we would cover all expenses. You can be a part of this miracle! We need your prayers and financial investment in this empowering ministry to women! Thank you!
