🇨🇦 CANADA’S JOB MARKET FACES NEW QUESTIONS AFTER CARNEY’S CLAIMS

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney’s repeated claims that Canada is creating jobs faster than the United States are facing renewed scrutiny following two consecutive months of employment losses in Canada.

On June 25, 2026, Carney stated that Canada was creating jobs at twice the rate of the United States. On August 22, he went further, saying Canada was creating jobs at four times the U.S. rate during remarks on Canada-U.S. trade negotiations. Both statements appear in official records published by the Prime Minister’s Office.

However, the latest Canadian employment figures paint a more difficult picture.

That U.S. figure has not been independently established here using a consistent comparison of official monthly employment data, so it should not be treated as confirmed.

The comparison also requires context: Canada and the United States use different employment surveys, and the results can be revised. A fair assessment must compare the same months and clearly distinguish the number of jobs added from the rate of job creation.

THE BIGGER QUESTION

🚨 POLICE WARN PUBLIC: HIGH-RISK S*X OFFENDER TO RESIDE IN VANCOUVER

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Police are warning the public that Skylar Wayne Pelletier, a convicted high-risk s*x offender, will be residing in Vancouver and is considered by police to pose a significant risk to women in the community.

PSIPHON MAY LEAVE CANADA OVER BILL C-22

A Toronto-based technology company best known for helping people bypass internet censorship in countries such as Iran, Russia and China says it is preparing to move its operations out of Canada if the federal government’s Bill C-22 proceeds in its current form.

The company is Psiphon.

Psiphon provides censorship-circumvention technology designed to help people access the open internet in countries where online communications are restricted, monitored or blocked.

And there is an unusual twist:

💰 The federal government recently provided Psiphon with $685,000 through the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).

According to the federal grants database, the agreement ran from January 1 to July 2, 2026, with funding intended to support Psiphon’s technology and its ability to serve users in heavily censored countries.

Now, Psiphon says it is making plans to leave Canada.

The company has told The Globe and Mail that it believes Bill C-22 could force it to alter important security features designed to protect users living under authoritarian regimes. Reports say Psiphon is concerned that complying with the legislation could undermine the very technology it uses to help people evade government censorship.

🔎 WHAT DOES BILL C-22 DO?

The federal government describes Bill C-22 as a lawful-access framework intended to ensure electronic service providers have the technical capabilities needed to respond to legally authorized requests from law enforcement and CSIS.

The government says the legislation does not authorize mass surveillance and that access to personal information would remain subject to legal authorities such as warrants and production orders.

However, the legislation would also establish a regulatory framework allowing the government to require certain electronic service providers to develop and maintain technical capabilities for lawful access.

That is where the controversy comes in.

For a company whose core purpose is helping users circumvent surveillance and censorship, Psiphon argues that some of these requirements could conflict directly with its security model.

💰 FUNDED BY OTTAWA — NOW CONSIDERING LEAVING

The situation has raised questions about Canada’s technology policy:

Why would the federal government provide hundreds of thousands of dollars to support a Canadian company developing anti-censorship technology, while simultaneously advancing legislation that the company says could make its Canadian operations difficult to maintain?

The government maintains that Bill C-22 is about lawful access and public safety, not mass surveillance.

Psiphon and privacy advocates argue that the proposed technical requirements could create significant privacy and security risks.

🇨🇦 QUEBEC’S NEW WARRANTY RULES ARE NOW IN EFFECT

SHOULD OTHER PROVINCES FOLLOW?

As of October 5, 2026, Quebec consumers have new protection under the legal warranty of good working order.

Certain new appliances and electronic devices must be repaired free of charge if they malfunction within the specified period.

Stoves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and heat pumps

Washing machines, dryers and dishwashers

4 YEARS
Televisions

3 YEARS
Desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, tablets and video-game consoles

The warranty is automatic and free for covered products purchased or leased new from a Quebec retailer on or after October 5, 2026.

It covers parts, labour and reasonable transportation or shipping costs.

It does not cover damage caused by misuse, normal maintenance or ordinary wear and tear.

The protection also exists alongside Quebec’s other legal warranties concerning reasonable durability.

Some manufacturers have reportedly warned retailers that prices may increase because of the added costs associated with the new requirements.

🇨🇦 PORT COQUITLAM MAYORAL CANDIDATE FACED PAST B.C. ODOMETER-TAMPERING FINDINGS

A candidate running for mayor of Port Coquitlam has a documented history involving a B.C. motor-vehicle regulatory case.

In a 2018 decision, the Vehicle Sales Authority of B.C. (VSA) found that Zampieri’s company, Wild Grizzly Transport Ltd., had operated as an unregistered motor dealer and had tampered with odometers on 37 vehicles.

The VSA said it compared vehicle-auction records with ICBC transfer documentation and found significant mileage discrepancies.

Among the examples cited in the regulator’s findings:

🚗 A Kia Sedona reportedly went from 375,233 km at auction to 138,380 km in the ICBC records — a difference of more than 236,000 km.

🚙 A 2002 Ford F-150 reportedly went from 300,952 km to 152,900 km.

The VSA found that Zampieri, as a director of Wild Grizzly, had authorized, permitted or acquiesced in the company’s conduct. A cease-and-desist order was issued against the company and Zampieri. (VSA)

The regulator subsequently denied Wild Grizzly’s application for a wholesaler licence. The VSA’s records also show that a reconsideration application by Wild Grizzly and Zampieri was denied. (VSA)

The VSA assessed $11,383.91 in investigation costs in a subsequent decision. (VSA)

Zampieri has denied tampering with the odometers. In comments reported by CBC News in 2019, he said the allegations were “not true” and said he would not discuss the matter further because it was before the courts and he had a lawyer. (Milenio Stadium)

The matter dates back to 2017–2018, well before the current 2026 municipal election.
