What We Believe: Doctrinal Statement
1. The Word of God
• We believe that the Bible is the infallible, plenary Word of God. God is the One who inspired His Word and the only One who preserved His Word throughout all generations. Lighthouse Christian Bible Baptist Church of Alberta uses the King James Version of the Bible as the official English translation of God’s Word in all our services and activities. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalms 12:6-7)
2. The Godhead
• We believe in one true God who reveals Himself to mankind in three Persons- The Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit. All three are eternal in identity and co-equal in power and glory. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, I Timothy 1:17, John 14:10, 26)
3. The Son of God
• We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Saviour. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and was offered as the perfect, sacrificial lamb as payment for the sins of mankind. He died, resurrected, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. One day, He will come back and take His bride away. (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6, Ephesians 1:7, Romans 8:34)
4. The Holy Spirit
• We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person who has the characteristics of the Holy Deity. He convicts sinners, indwells the saved and seals them unto the day of redemption. (Romans 8:9, Ephesians 1:13-14)
• We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Divine Guide who helps believers to understand and apply the Scriptures. He is also the One who fills the believer with His power. (Ephesians 1:17-18)
5. Fall of Man and Salvation
• We believe that man is created in the image of God, beginning with Adam. We believe that mankind has inherited the sin nature because of Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden. The only hope for salvation is total repentance of sin and accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour. (Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9-10)
6. The Eternal Security of Believers
• We believe that once a person accepts Jesus Christ as his Saviour, he is kept in the hands of God and is eternally secured in Christ. (John 10:27-28, Romans 8:1, 38-39)
7. The Church
• We believe that the origin of the church is when Jesus called the twelve apostles. These apostles were then empowered by the Holy Spirit during Pentecost. We believe that the local church is bride of Christ. It is not a building, but an assembly of called out born-again people whose purpose is to worship God, fellowship with members, obey the ordinances of God and carry out the Great Commission. (Matthew 16:16-18, Acts 1:15, Acts 2:41-43, Acts 20:28, Hebrews 10:25, Matthew 28:18-20)
8. Christian Behaviour and Separation
• We believe that saved people should live in a manner that pleases the Lord. The person who truly professes to be saved should exhibit godliness and abstain from sinful pleasures and associations as commanded in the Bible.(Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 6:17, James 4:4)
• We believe that God created humanity either male or female. We believe that every human’s true gender is identical to the genetic, biological s*x with which they were born. (Genesis 1:26-28, 31, Genesis 2:23-24, Matthew 19:4-6)
• We believe that marriage is a sacred institution designed by God between a biological male and a biological female. (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; Romans 7:2; 1 Corinthians 7:2, 10; Ephesians 5:22-33)
9. The Last Days
• We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the Bride of Christ. We also adhere to the belief of the pre-millennial return of Christ as the literal rule of 1,000 years. After this reign is the Great White Throne Judgment of the unsaved while believers spend eternity in fullness of joy and perfection with the Lord. (I Corinthians 15:51-58, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, Revelation 19-22)
10. Creation
• We believe in the account of creation found in the book of Genesis. Creation is a direct and miraculous act of God Himself. We believe that God created the entire universe in six literal, 24-hour periods. (Genesis 1-2, Exodus 20:11)
11. Beginning of Life
• We believe that life begins at conception and the unborn child is a living human being. We believe that God values life and no one has the right to take life away. (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5, 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)
12. Missions
• We believe that it is the responsibility of the church to carry out the Great Commission. We are commanded to proclaim the Gospel to everyone including our own neighborhoods and to the regions beyond. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8, II Corinthians 5:20)
13. Love
• We believe that the church should demonstrate love for others including those who believe or those who oppose our beliefs. We are to conduct ourselves with those who disagree graciously, humbly, patiently, and gently. Although God commands us to reject sinful activities, we are to love and pray for anyone who is involved in such sinful behaviours. (Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 5:44-48; Luke 6:31; John 13:34-35; Romans 12:9-10; 17-21; 13:8-10; Philippians 2:2-4; 2 Timothy 2:24-26; Titus 3:2; 1 John 3:17-18)
