Twelve Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care May 11th

“Palliative Care is an expression of the truly human attitude of taking care of one another, especially of those who suffer. It is a testimony that the human person is always precious, even if marked by illness and old age.” Pope Francis

As Canada becomes increasingly secular, spiritual values are often overshadowed by societal tendencies toward comfort, instant gratification and aversion to suffering. Yet, our Catholic faith challenges us to emphasize respect for life in all its vulnerabilities from the moment of conception until natural death. There is a great need for prayer and a strong emphasis on palliative/hospice care when faced with end-of-life decisions. All are invited to pray and meditate in the Nave for improved palliative/hospice care on May 11th from 9am-9pm. The Catholic Women’s League will lead prayers, rosaries, and meditations. Drop in whenever it is convenient. Stay for thirty minutes or three hours…. All are welcome. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

Location: St. Albert the Great Parish, 10 Prestwick Dr. SE, T2Z 4J6
Parking: Accessed at the back of the parish, toward the East side.

If you've ever been distracted or confused at Sunday Mass, this video is for you.

Over the course of an entire staged Mass, Fr. Mike Schmitz breaks down what is going on at each moment. He shares not only what is happening, but why it's happening and what you—as a Catholic in the pew—should be doing, thinking, and praying about.

A good Catholic confession involves sincere self-examination, honest confession of sins, true contrition, acceptance of penance, and trust in God’s mercy.
It's important to prepare before confession, EWTN provides a great 5 step process for us to follow:
1) Examine our conscience sincerely
2) Sorrow for our sins (contrition)
3) Confess with clarity and honesty
4) Complete your penance
5) Have a firm purpose of amendment

To read on the process you can visit the article here: https://ewtn.co.uk/chpop-the-simple-checklist-for-a-great-confession-5-things-every-catholic-should-know/

Our parish has some great resources to assist you as well, be sure to visit our pamphlet area for a detailed examine of conscience and some smaller pamphlets for children/youth and how to make your first confession guide.

Today Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a significant period of preparation for Easter in the Catholic Church. It is a solemn day that sets the tone for repentance and spiritual reflection. As Christians, we use this time to reflect on our lives, seek forgiveness, and renew our commitment to our faith.

On Ash Wednesday, we receive ashes on our foreheads, which are made from blessed palm branches from the previous year’s Palm Sunday. These ashes serve as a powerful symbol of our mortality and the need for repentance. They remind us that we are dust and to dust, we shall return. This practice finds its roots in the Scriptures, where ashes were used as a sign of mourning and repentance. *www.youngcatholics.com
