There’s something special about seeing our community come together.

Every Sunday, people across SunWest are choosing to Serve in 1 and Make Room for 1 - welcoming someone at the door, pouring into our kids, making coffee, setting up spaces, serving behind the scenes, and simply making room for someone else to belong.

It’s more than filling a role. It’s all of us playing a part in creating a place where people can come as they are, find community, and experience Jesus.

We’re so grateful for the many hands, familiar faces, new faces, conversations, laughter, and small acts of service that make SunWest feel like home.

Serve in 1. Make Room for 1.
We’re better when we do this together.

Why does something God designed as good so often feel so hard?

Genesis shows us that work itself wasn’t the curse. But when shalom was fractured, the effects reached into every part of life—including our work, our relationships, and the things we care for most.

Now, even good work comes with thorns and thistles. Things break. Relationships require tending. The work is never quite finished.

But that doesn’t make it meaningless.

Maybe the frustration we feel isn’t proof that we’re doing something wrong. Maybe it’s part of living faithfully in a world that isn’t yet fully restored.

There is still goodness in the work. There is still purpose in the tending. And there is still hope among the thorns.

What if your calling isn’t somewhere out there waiting to be discovered?

Maybe it’s already right in front of you - in the work you do, the people you serve, and the ordinary places God has placed you.

A job earns a living. A career can move us toward our goals. But a calling invites us to use who we are and what we’ve been given for something beyond ourselves.

You don’t need a burning bush or a dramatic moment to be called. The question isn’t if you’re called - it’s whether you’re paying attention.

“Each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them.” - 1 Corinthians 7:17

What might God be calling you to right where you are?

What’s your calling?

We often think of “calling” as something big - a specific career, ministry, or life-changing moment. But what if your calling is already right in front of you?

The work you do. The people you serve. The gifts God has given you. The ordinary places you find yourself every day.

God doesn’t only call us to something someday. He calls us to faithfully live out our purpose right where we are.

So maybe the question isn’t “Am I called?” but “Am I paying attention?”

What if faith isn’t measured by what happens next?

Hebrews 11 tells the stories of people who saw miracles, victories, and impossible breakthroughs. But it also tells us about “the others” - people who trusted God just as deeply and never saw the outcome they hoped for.

Some escaped the sword. Others were killed by it. Both were called faithful.

Faith isn’t a formula for getting the outcome we want. It’s trust in God - even when the answer looks different than we prayed for.

Sometimes faith carries us out. Sometimes it carries us through.

What does it look like to trust God when the outcome isn’t what you hoped for?

Why do we hide our mistakes?

David’s story reminds us that sometimes the hardest part isn’t the mistake itself - it’s everything we do to avoid facing it.

One hidden choice can lead to another, slowly pulling us away from wholeness with God, others, and ourselves.

But there’s another way forward. Confession isn’t about shame. It’s an invitation to stop hiding, be honest, and step back into freedom.

What might change if we had the courage to bring what’s hidden into the light?

08/26/2026

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. And it isn’t something we have to wait until we feel.

When God tells Joshua, “Be strong and courageous,” it isn’t a pep talk-it’s a command.

Because real courage is choosing to trust God when the outcome is still uncertain. It’s putting your feet in the water before it parts. It’s moving forward when fear tells you to stay where you are.

And that kind of courage is built long before the moment we need it-in the quiet, consistent practice of knowing God and knowing His Word.
