McDougall United Church, Calgary An Affirming Ministry in the United Church of Canada, grounded in the community of Acadia, serving the city of Calgary.

McDougall is a place where you are welcome! Thanks for scoping us out, but don’t be too shy. Our doors are open to everyone; whether you’re a regular church goer or a part of a busy family that can only attend the occasional service. A Sunday at McDougall can include our worship band playing radio hits, using music to mingle with multimedia and a sermon that’s always fresh and topical. Every Sunda

y morning we have age-appropriate programming for children that runs adjacent to our worship service! Children from the ages of 0-3 are welcome in our Children’s Centre at any time. Children from age 3 to Grade 6 are welcome to stay in the sanctuary for the first part of the service, then head to our Kids Programming Centre’s with their leaders for a fun and interactive time. Here we gather in community for worship, service, and action. Here we find friendships and community with God at the centre. We love to eat, and we love to make a difference in the world. Join us for Sunday Worship at 10am followed by fellowship and refreshments. We also have programs throughout the week, everything from a ukulele club to spiritually curious evenings for all!

Property Report Summer 2026

Our caretaker, Jerimiah, has left for another job – his skills and efficiency will be missed. Arrangements have been made with Joseph Caguia and Patrick Meenaugh to clean and set up for now while we determine if full time caretaking is needed. We have some volunteer offers to do minor repair maintenance, but more help would be appreciated.

Earlier this year we found many of the emergency exit sign lights were only partially working. Repairs were not possible as the units were obsolete, so all exit signs were replaced at a cost of about $6,000 which was not anticipated in our budget.

Decolonizing Gender & Sexuality: Session 2

Have you purchased your tickets yet for Decolonizing Gender & Sexuality? This exciting program is being presented on Saturday, September 26th at McDougall. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing some more information about this event.

The day has been split into two different sessions. You can choose to come to one or both of them. Today, I am going to be talking a bit more about the second part of the day. This session starts at 1 pm and runs until noon. The cost to attend ONLY this session is $25 and it includes lunch (or you can come for the whole day for $40).

Session two is called Two-Spirit / Indigiq***r Pasts, Presents, and Futures:

This workshop aims to develop an appreciation of the diverse histories of gender and sexuality on Turtle Island (what is now known as North America) pre-colonization, helps to recognize the effects of colonization on Indigenous gender and sexual diversity historically and currently, and provides hopeful paths towards the acceptance, support, and celebration of q***r Indigenous folks. In this workshop, we will explore strategies that foster decolonial allyship practices in the spaces we occupy, including the workplace and interpersonally.

Robertson starts off the week by saying, “If you’re not laughing, you’re going to cry,” which was something he heard often in NDN country. His father would say, “When you cry, it’s pain leaving the body,” and goes on to say, “Never stop yourself from crying.”
