Ever been driving on a dirt road when someone kicks up dust in front of you? Suddenly, you can’t see clearly. That’s what happens when we let our emotions and flesh lead us instead of God’s Spirit.
James 1:19 reminds us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” When relationships stir up dust—through hurt, disappointment, or unmet expectations—we have a choice. We can react from our flesh, or we can pause in His presence.
David modeled this beautifully in Psalm 3. Facing immense pressure, he paused—“Selah”—and shifted his focus from problems to God’s faithfulness. That pause changed everything.
This week, when emotions rise, don’t push them down or let them navigate you. Instead, let them be indicators pointing you to pause in God’s presence. Let the dust settle. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into love, peace, and patience instead of regret.
