Redeeming the time
Ephesians 5:15-17
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore, do not be foolish but understand what the Lord’s will is.
I. The children of God must walk wisely according to God's pattern, not the world’s pattern.
Ephesians 5:15 “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.” Paul is saying, “Be very intentional about how you live your life.”
II. The children of God must watch the time according to God’s standard, not the world’s standard.
verse 16: “Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Basically, “redeeming the time' is about seeing each moment as valuable and acting wisely with it, because once it passes, it’s gone.
III. The children of God must be watchful of God's will rather than men’s pleasure.
Ephesians 5:17 “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” “The will of God is about our transformation as a person, not just about what we do.”
Main Lessons in These Verses
1. Be careful how you live – Live with purpose and awareness, not carelessly.
2. Be wise, not unwise – Let God’s wisdom guide your decisions and behavior.
3. Make the most of every opportunity – Use your time for things that honor God because the world is full of distractions and evil.
4. Understand the Lord’s will – Know what God desires by studying His Word and obeying it.
Live wisely and purposefully, using every moment to do God’s will.
In other words, don’t waste your life—use your time, decisions, and actions to honor God.
Paul reminds believers that true wisdom is not found in the world, but in understanding and following God’s will each day.
