As I wrap up my journey in the North, visiting the communities of Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik, and Tsiigehtchic, I leave with a deeper understanding of the strength of the people who call the North home.

From those living in difficult conditions, to elders, community leaders, and families, I have seen firsthand a deep respect for faith, family, community, nature, and living in harmony with one another.

I have learned much from everyone I met — from people on the streets to those guiding their communities. It reminds me why our North of 60 Project must continue to support these remote communities.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me, shared their stories, and helped deepen my understanding of life in the North.

Connections matter. Relationships matter.

Connections Matter.

As I travel through Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik, and Tsiigehtchic, I continue to meet amazing people — many helping, and many needing help.

Food insecurity in the North is real. Groceries can cost 100% more than in the South, and rising transportation costs are putting the SSVP North of 60 program at risk.

The Light Within: Understanding Divine Presence

Throughout religious texts, God is consistently portrayed as the ultimate source of light and guidance. This isn't merely symbolic. When we talk about having the "eyes of the heart" opened and illuminated, we're describing a fundamental shift in how we perceive and understand spiritual truth. It's about moving beyond intellectual knowledge to a deeper, more intimate awareness of the divine working in our lives.

This illumination of the heart transforms our perspective. What once seemed obscure becomes clear. Where we once stumbled in darkness, we now walk with confidence and purpose. The divine light doesn't just show us the way forward—it reveals God's very presence within and around us.

This spiritual conviction runs deep in the Christian tradition, beautifully expressed in the words of St. Francis of Assisi: "All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle."
