Our Bishop Bruce in Rome for meetings, including a chat with Pope Leo XIV.

Over the past two weeks, Bishop Bruce has been in Italy participating in various activities aimed at strengthening the bonds of communion between Anglicans and Roman Catholics.

Some highlights from the trip included a meeting of the Malines Conversations Group, which fosters ecumenical dialogue between Anglicans and Roman Catholics. He preached at St. Paul’s Within the Walls Episcopal Church and at the Anglican Centre in Rome. During his time in Rome, he met with the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See, a representative of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, and Canada’s ambassador to the Holy See.

On Wednesday, he attended the general audience with Pope Leo and had the opportunity to briefly speak with the Holy Father about the importance of Anglicans and Catholics growing together in unity and mission in a world that seems more divided than ever.

We have just received the sad news of the death of Christopher Drennan, a lifetime member of our community. Condolences to the family and all of us who knew him.

For the folk who know Aislin's work.....well done Helen! With thanks to Ann Knechtel for the tip.

I have a few guardian angels out there, like Helen Meredith in NDG! She is always checking out yard sales and such, all over western Quebec and eastern Ontario. From time to time, she runs across Aislin books, prints and even original drawings, like this from some sale in New Edinburgh, . its a 1991 sketch on a threatened postal strike. Sound familiar? She bought it for ten bucks, and then brought it home to me. We'll give it to the McCord Museum that now has more than 5,000 original cartoons of mine. All of those have been assessed at quite a bit more than ten dollars. Thanks, M. T.

Dr. J. David Shannon (1947-2025)

On October 12, 2025, Dr. J. David Shannon left this world peacefully and with great dignity in the presence of his loving family at their country home in Cacouna Quebec where he spent every summer since he was two years of age. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years Valerie, his children Christopher (Courtney) and Grant (Jackie), his grandchildren Alexis, Kyleigh, Morgan and Ophelia, his sister Rev. Dr. Patricia Peacock, his brother-in-law Neal Parker (Mirna) and his nieces and nephews, Tobin and Tom Peacock, and Dr. Torrey and Kasey Parker. For the past two years, he was attentively and compassionately cared for by Nurse Practitioner Claudie Beaulieu and the intensive home care team from the CLSC Rivière du Loup as well as Dr. A Sharma, NPs Lélia Holden and Angela Stuart from the McGill University Health Centre. The family is especially grateful for the unending support of Dre. Susanne Carignan.

For over 40 years, Dave practiced medicine in his private office and at The Montreal General Hospital on the 15th floor and in the Emergency Room. He also taught the introduction to clinical medicine at McGill for many years for which he was awarded in 2019-20 the Transition to Clinical Practice Award for Excellence in Teaching.

A Celebration of Dave's life will take place at St. James United Church, 463 Ste. Catherine St. West, on Nov. 15, 2025 at 11AM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Amnesty International or The Montreal General Hospital Foundation.

As we enter our final stage of major structural work we thank three key corporate sponsors, who have helped us from the beginning: CPRQ (le Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Quebec) ; The Anglican Foundation; The Drummond Foundation.

The roof on the parsonage was done early in the summer. Work going on right now includes repointing and repairing the stone foundation; rebuilding the buttresses and the wooden foundation that sits on the stone foundation; rebuilding the seven large windows, which have survived unchanged for 160 years.

Work will be completed by the spring of 2026.

Alors que nous entrons dans la dernière étape de nos importants travaux de structure, nous remercions trois importants commanditaires corporatifs qui nous ont soutenus depuis le début : le Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec (CPRQ), la Fondation anglicane et la Fondation Drummond.

La toiture du presbytère a été posée au début de l'été. Les travaux en cours comprennent le rejointement et la réparation des fondations en pierre ; la reconstruction des contreforts et de la fondation en bois qui repose sur ces fondations ; et la reconstruction des sept grandes fenêtres, restées inchangées depuis 160 ans.

Les travaux seront terminés d'ici le printemps 2026.

CHLOÉ DUMOULIN

Nommée parmi les meilleurs musiciens de moins de 30 ans par la CBC, la pianiste Chloé Dumoulin est reconnue pour son jeu expressif et sa sonorité riche. Elle s’est produite au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Chine. Lauréate du 3e Grand Prix du Concours Prix d’Europe 2024, elle bénéficie du soutien de plusieurs fondations, dont la Fondation Sylva-Gelber et les Jeunesses Musicales du Canada.
Elle s’est produite dans des lieux prestigieux comme la Salle Bourgie de Montréal et l’église St James’s Piccadilly à Londres.
Depuis 2023, elle poursuit un Artist Diploma à la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres avec Ronan O’Hora. Diplômée du Conservatoire de Montréal, elle a étudié avec André Laplante et Claire Ouellet. Elle a reçu des classes de maître avec Louis Lortie, Richard Goode et Gabriela Montero.
