If there is one video that I would personally recommend watching on Tisha B’Av, it is this one:
https://youtu.be/fSD2_WYZXiM
I will be honest, it is very emotional. But it brought home for me, in such a powerful way, one of the deepest messages of Tisha B’Av.
We hear about terrible tragedies, enormous pain and people who somehow find the strength to forgive things that most of us cannot even imagine. And then there are the smaller things in our own lives. A comment that hurt us. Someone who disappointed us. A misunderstanding. A family member we stopped speaking to. A friendship that became distant. Resentment that has been sitting quietly in our heart for months or even years.
Sometimes those smaller things feel completely justified. We tell ourselves that the other person was wrong, that they should reach out first, or that what happened was too painful to simply let go.
But this video made me ask myself a very uncomfortable and honest question.
If people can find the strength to forgive after experiencing such unimaginable pain, what am I still holding on to?
Tisha B’Av is not only about mourning what was destroyed thousands of years ago. It is also about looking at the division, anger and machloket that still exist between us today.
I highly, highly recommend watching this. And maybe after watching it, think of one person. One resentment. One relationship that could use a little healing.
Maybe send a message. Maybe make a phone call. Maybe forgive someone, even if they never asked.
One small act of shalom may be much bigger in Shamayim than we could ever understand.
May this truly be the last Tisha B’Av.
A powerful documentary about people who faced the unimaginable yet ...
