These cuts in the parchment of the Mezuzah were made while trying to remove the scroll from its case.

The Mezuzah isn’t Kasher anymore, sadly…

If you experience similar difficulties at home, please just take the Mezuzah WITH the case off the wall, and we’ll take care of it for you, safely !

Opened Tefillin today in order to check them, was disheartened to find the Parchment distorted inside [1st picture].

Especially as the Writing was beautiful [2nd picture].

It felt great being able to roll them back with respect, nicely and tight [3rd picture].

For the first time, since I started working, I was asked to install the Head (Shel Rosh) Strap using a rare Knot (קשר צאנז), which represents twice the letter Daleth, as opposed to the regular Knot, which represents it once.

It is very rarely used, not likely to come across.

These Tefilin needed to be adapted for a lefty, where the Knot 🪢 is on the left side of the Tefilin.

Someone went DIY 🔨 on it lol,
Then the owner brought it in for fixing.
Results in the second picture.

This area of the Tefilin is sensitive, because a wrong cut could affect the Kashrut of the boxes, its squareness.

THE CROWN ARRIVED BH !

I was able, bH, to purchase the Jerusalem Crown, N° 41, out of the 480 copies available for general sale.

The Jerusalem Crown is a full Tanakh (Torah, Neviim, Ketuvim) based on the oldest Codex we have today : the Aleppo Codex (Keter Aram Tzova, in Hebrew).

The Aleppo Codex was written around 930AD, by the Sofer (scribe) Shlomo ben Buya’a, and edited by the Masoretic expert Aharon ben Asher.

Maimonides mentions the Codex in his Laws regarding the writing of a Sefer Torah (chapter 8, 4). He wrote his own Sefer Torah based on the Codex.

Finally, after Israel and Cairo, the codex was transferred to the community of Aleppo (Syria), who watched over it from the 14th century until its return to Israel, in the 50’s.
Full circle.

The Aleppo Codex is the most authoritative version of the Tanakh.

The Jerusalem Crown was redacted by experts on the Masorah, Rabbi Mordechai Breuer and others, who worked years on creating the most precise version of the Text, according to the Aleppo Codex.

Having the Jerusalem Crown is really vital to my work as a Sofer, since I need to check the spelling of words sometimes, and other details regarding the organization of the Text.

The Crown represents years of tradition, work and preservation of the origins of our nation, and of our Tanakh.
