June 7, 2026 - 2nd Sunday after Pentecost.
Excerpt from the Sermon:

"IT WAS RECKONED TO US - As Abraham Believed God, We Believe Too"

Romans 4:22-25; Matthew 9:18-26

My dear friends,
As I prepared for this Sunday, one phrase in Paul's letter to the Romans leapt off the page and refused to let me go:
"It was reckoned to him." (Romans 4:22)
What was reckoned? Why does Paul place such emphasis on it?

Then I noticed something even more remarkable. Paul writes:
"The words, 'it was reckoned to him,' were written not for his sake alone, but for ours also." (Romans 4:23-24)

Suddenly, this was no longer only Abraham's story.
It became our story.

Paul reminds us that Abraham did not possess the fulfillment of God's promise. He did not yet see the nation God had promised him. He did not yet see descendants as numerous as the stars.
What Abraham possessed was faith.

Paul says: "Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness." (Romans 4:3) – not as something achieved, earned or deserved. He says Abraham believed and trusted the One who made the promise.
Abraham believed before he saw.
He walked before the path became visible.
And God reckoned that faith as righteousness.

My friends, faith is not positive thinking or wishful thinking, or believing in ourselves. No. Faith is trusting God.

Paul says this same faith is reckoned to us who believe in:
"Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." (Romans 4:24)
The same God who brought life from Sarah's barren womb.
The same God who raised Jesus from the grave.
The same God who still brings life where others see impossibility."
