Judges 6:11-16 (The LORD Is with You, Mighty Warrior)
Israel turned their hearts away from God and brought upon themselves oppression of the Midianites; it took them seven years to turn to God and cry out for His help. Gideon, the new deliverer of Israel, had weak and wavering faith but God worked with him with grace and patience and made a mighty warrior out of him.
When Gideon thought he could not do great things for God, God assured him of His presence and let him know that he needed to depend on the Lord. God gave Gideon signs he asked and spoke comforting words to remove his fear. Ultimately, Gideon delivered Israel from the oppression of Midian with the Spirit’s empowerment.
He who saved us from the oppression of sin is with us and He guides and strengthens us to serve and obey God's call. On our own, all the obstacles we face might seem too big and mighty for us to handle, but with God's presence and empowerment, nothing we encounter in life can totally wreck us. We are the mighty warriors of God.

Malachi 1:1-14 (Give Wholehearted Worship)
The exiles have returned from the Babylonian captivity to their homeland, rebuilt the temple, but remained complacent spiritually. They simply went through the motions of temple worship, bringing sacrifices which were unacceptable, and expected God to be gracious.
Israelites who failed to give honor and respect due to God were rebuked through prophet Malachi. God reminded of His everlasting love to the people who remained uninterested in loving and worshiping Him so they would repent and come back to Him.
We treat serving and worshiping God as a burden sometimes and allow many things to hinder us from seeking and receiving God. Ungrateful hearts can’t respond to God's love justly! Therefore, let us surrender our cold and dull hearts to God and invite Him to touch and transform us so we can love, respect, honor, serve, and worship Him wholeheartedly.

Acts 9:1-9 (Forever I Am Changed)
Saul, also called Paul, was zealous for God and he thought destroying Christians was serving Him. This angry and violent man came to encounter Christ on his way to Damascus however, and learned that Christ was the Son of God; he was committing a grave sin of persecuting Christ the promised Messiah!
Blinded Saul went through seemingly the darkest period of his life, but it was a turning point that led him to walk the new path of light. Upon recovering his sight, Saul began the faith journey with Christ and devoted himself to serving Him. Persecutor of Christ became the preacher of Christ.
God has been preparing Saul since his birth to be His vessel and Saul started proclaiming truth of Jesus wherever he went. God guides and leads us so we can participate in His work and accomplish great things for His honor and glory. Let’s surrender ourselves to Christ and make ourselves available to Him so we can fulfill the work He has set out for us.

Genesis 7:1-5 (The Greatest Judgment and The Greatest Salvation)
God proclaimed judgment and destruction of the whole earth and all the living things when the wickedness of humanity had become great; He demonstrated His justice and holiness as well as His grace and mercy in sending flood and saving Noah along with his family and a pair of every kind of animal.
God allowed them to have a new life in the new world after the great flood; and Noah built an altar to the Lord and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to expresses gratitude as soon as he existed the ark. As Noah’s faith, patience, and obedience were tested in building the ark, waiting for the flood, and the earth to become inhabitable again, we too will go through various tests in our Christian walk.
God always keeps His word in judging and saving His creation. We are not to be complacent about sin that is enslaving and destructive but to turn to God in repentance. As we read through the Bible, let us continue to reflect on God's justice, mercy, and grace, and respond to Him in worship and praise.

Proverbs 4:4-9 (Get Wisdom)
Father David loved son Solomon deeply and taught him the ways of God. Solomon’s heart and ears were receptive to his instruction; he not only remembered and lived out the teaching but also communicated it to others so they may respond in obedience and receive blessings.
So much information is easily and readily available to us but having lots of knowledge does not prevent us from making foolish choices. So why don’t we heed the advice of Solomon who valued, pursued, obtained wisdom, and was guarded and guided by it? ‘Get wisdom!’
God is wise and He will not lead us astray. We can get wisdom when we learn to trust in Him with all our hearts, lean not on own understanding, and acknowledge God in all that we say and do. Wisdom will then help us know, love, and obey God better and more! Let’s get wisdom and live a life that honors God with all that we are and all that we have.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (A Cord of Three Strands)
When we do life with a partner, companion, and friend, we have a more satisfying return for our labor, help and comfort in times of need, and a sense of safety and security. Having a spiritual accountability partner who is prayerful and supportive helps us stay on a godly path.
When we encounter difficulties in life, we are tempted to quit and walk away, but we don’t really grow and mature by dodging and disengaging every time we find ourselves in a tough spot. A true friend who is serviceable and available will offer encouragement, care, and comfort so we can hang in there and do what needs to be done.
Jesus invites us to labor and persevere together to bring new people into God's kingdom and edify one another. Our differences make our unity more beautiful and wonderful. Let’s learn to appreciate one another and be each other’s iron sharpener so we can continue to take steps of faith and walk with Jesus.

1 Corinthians 13 (An Everlasting Love of God)
Due to some misunderstandings regarding spiritual gifts, particularly the gift of tongues, Christians in Corinth were being envious, boastful, and proud; so, their spiritual father Paul wrote to remind them that love is superior to spiritual gifts and good things were useless apart from love.
In the biblical sense, love is not just emotions and feelings but a choice and commitment. The love we receive from God is everlasting, sacrificial, and unconditional, but the love we give to others is often conditional, calculative, and short lived. What’s worse, we use our past hurt as an excuse to not love at all.
God loves us with His patient and kind love despite our unworthiness, and He desires for us to extend His unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness to those around us willingly and selflessly. Let us be obedient and commit ourselves to loving God and others in everlasting and active way each day!

1 Chronicles 16:23-36 (Declaring God's Glory)
Nature points us to God and reveals His glory and creativity, but a mere acknowledgment of God's existence does not save us. When God's people who have received salvation partner with God and proclaim God's salvation however, new people can accept the salvation God offers and fellow believers are edified.
The returned Judean exiles were delivered by God and had a lot to be grateful for; they were to bring offering to God and worship Him in response. As the recipients of God’s salvation and many other blessings, we too have a lot to thank God for, but we fail to honor and glorify Him for various reasons.
We must be responsive and responsible Christians. Let us take notice of God and His awesome work in and around us, and continue to praise and worship Him individually and communally. Glory to God! May we experience God and proclaim His greatness each day.

Titus 3:3-7 (The Holy Spirit with Us and In Us)
We were once foolish, disobedient, and deceived, but God in His kindness, mercy, and love did not leave us in that fallen condition. He cleansed and renewed us and made us co heirs of His eternal kingdom with Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the sign and seal of this transformation.
Certain circumstances and situations in life cause us to think that God is far away even though that’s not the case and we end up feeling hopeless, helpless, and miserable. Nevertheless, God reveals and reaffirms the truth to us through His Word and Spirit so that we can continue to love and obey Him.
Eternity with Jesus begins here and now when we open up to the Spirit’s enabling and equipping work. He who never leaves us nor forsakes us has given the Spirit to be our comforter. Through His helping, supporting, and strengthening ministry, the Spirit who is ‘with us’ and ‘dwells in us’ will keep us in Christ and His way. Praise God!

Exodus 5:19-21 (Making Bricks Without Straw)
It’s true Moses was born in unfavorable time when male Hebrew babies were put to death, but God's plan of salvation was in motion. God who saved Moses will use him later to save lives of His people. God equipped Moses to serve His purpose by allowing him to be educated and trained in both Hebraic and Egyptian cultures.
When Pharaoh ignored God's message to release the Israelites and added more workload to them instead, the people of God quickly forgot about God's promise of deliverance and blamed God appointed leader. Moses was different though. He remained a fervent prayer and a faithful mediator between God and His people.
Times of difficulties and obstructions do not indicate that God and His help have departed. Even when we are doing good and right things, we may feel discouraged and wronged, but we are not to give up. When we keep on trusting and obeying God and His call, we will experience God who brings us through and enables us to make bricks without straws.

Luke 12:16-21 (Parable of the Rich Fool)
The world convinces us that our comfort and happiness depend on the wealth we accumulate so we feel pressured to earn and store things. The rich man in Jesus’ parable had a great wealth management plan to ensure that his life on earth is easy and secure but he failed to prepare for eternal life and thus is called a fool.
Where have we placed our devotion, love, and trust? Material things are not evil but chasing after them while foregoing spiritual things will lead us astray from God. Our time on earth is limited and it is foolish to use it to pursue things we must leave behind when our earthly life comes to an end.
We will be consumed by greed and discontentment unless our focus and priority shift from worldly to heavenly things, temporal to eternal things. Time is a gift; let us use it to live for God, serve Him and His purpose. Preparation for eternity with God can and must start today!

Acts 27:27-36 (Let’s Give Thanks)
276 people on board were stuck in storm and suffering greatly. Much harm and loss would have been prevented if they had listened to Paul’s advice, but that wasn’t the case. Amid threat of shipwreck and death, people stopped eating regular meals and sailors sought to abandon ship and its passengers to save themselves.
Paul was a mere prisoner but those in authority listened to him. As a man who received care and comfort from God, he freely and generously dispensed them through his deeds and words to the people lost in despair and fear. He was a true chaplain!
Keeping the spirit of gratitude trains us to be God focused in times of loss, pain, and struggles which come to us like unwelcomed guests. God and His help are always with us to encourage and sustain us. God blesses us each day so let us respond to Him by giving thanks each day.
