The 4th annual Britt winter camping expedition took place this last weekend. Around 40 young people from across the diocese and beyond descended on Britt.
Despite the temperature dropping to -36, quinzees were built and while the snow was hardening, spiritual talks were offered by Fr. Bissonette (Bowmanville) our seminarian Andrew Roelands (St. Alphonsus, Peterborough) and Fr. Campbell the current parish priest of Britt.
Mass on Friday evening and Saturday morning, and a Holy Hour rounded out the activities. On Sunday morning they joined the parish community here for Sunday Mass, providing readers, servers and beautiful music.
My sincere thanks to the organizers and adult helpers who made the weekend possible. Talk is now turning to the next weekend excursion back to Britt.

The largest youth gathering in the diocese has just been completed with over 80 people taking part. The pilgrimage "In the footsteps of the Holy Canadian Martyrs" drew young people from the Peterborough and other neighbouring dioceses. This involved a walk of 130Km from St Joseph's Powassan to Holy Family Church in Britt where the pilgrims were able to venerate the relics of the martyrs and see the paintings of these same martyrs. Great thanks are due to the organizers and the numerous helpers, without whose help the pilgrimage would not have been possible. Grateful thanks to His Lordship Bishop Miehm for his support and for granting a Plenary Indulgence to the participants.

It has been an eventful few days culminating with the sad news from Rome this morning. The sign above the church door reads The Apostolic See is vacant. Let us pray for the repose of his soul.

There have been many mission churches in the history of the parish, beginning with the earliest, Sacred Heart at French River village at the mouth of the French River. I hope to provide some information on each of them over time.Today we look at one nearer to home, in fact just a few miles north of Britt
In 1933 Fr. Clearly supervised the building of a log church at Beckanon. This church was solemnly blessed by Bishop O' Connor and dedicated to St. Augustine on May 24th 1933. The church functioned for about 14 years offering Mass around once per month, (possibly in rotation with St. James on the Magnetawan Reserve and Sacred Heart at Pickerel), but had to be moved because of the construction of highway 69. With the highway now connnected directly to Britt the church building was then presumably sold and served as part of the Still River Truck stop for many years.

This Sunday we enter the Holy Season of Advent, the time for us to prepare spiritually for the celebration of our Saviour's birth on Christmas.
Also here is the scene after the first snow fall of the year.

Making a welcome return to the parish this weekend were the students from St. Philips Seminary in Toronto, they were accompanied by several faculty members and the Norbertine religious community in Toronto several of whom also study at the seminary. Joining them later on Friday were several parishioners from the (other) Holy Family parish in Toronto.
Saturday they set off to climb Silver Peak in Killarney before returning home on Saturday evening.

The largest youth event in the diocese the pilgrimage "In the footsteps of the Canadian Martyrs" concluded recently. The walk from Powassan concludes with the arrival of the pilgrims in Britt where they are able to venerate the relics of three of the martyrs. This year more than 80 young people participated.
My thanks to the Diocesan Youth Office who supported the pilgrimage financially and of course to the many adult volunteers who made it possible.
