Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. Lent helps us focus on Christ ,who for our sakes was humble and obedient to his heavenly Father even to the point of suffering and dying for our sakes, and – as Jesus was obedient it is a reminder to us as well to seek to be obedient to God's call on us and on our lives. We recognize our need for repentance and our depravity apart from God , to draw closer to God, and to prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter.

Our 2026 Sermon Lenten theme is “Waking Up To Our Egypt”.
The book of Exodus begins with the good land that carried Jacob’s family out of certain death, has gradually turned into a land of bo***ge. The tip-toe into the snares of sin and death is subtle and gradual and often goes undetected. The people of Israel likely had no awareness that this good, peaceful land they were living in, was mounting a plot to utterly destroy them. There is a clear spiritual reality that spans all of time on display here: the good things in the world around us, can subtly re-orient our hearts and our focus away from the one true God. Unfortunately, there is nothing “neutral” in this world. All things are either working for Christ and the freedom of His Kingdom or working for the enemy and our enslavement. This season of lent, will be an invitation to awaken to the “Egypt” that is around us – to unsettle us from our comfort, so that we refocus our eyes on the cross, and re-anchor our souls in Jesus Christ.
