By faith, Abel offered a better sacrifice, Noah built an ark, Abraham left his home and Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. They obeyed God and were rewarded for their obedience. He has provided something better for us: That we would also obey Him and that we would be made perfect. This perfection is a condition of heart.

Jesus spoke about taking the plank from our own eye first, about making the tree good and about how only the good soil produces fruit. Paul calls this establishing our hearts blameless in holiness. The writer of Hebrews describes this as the perfecting of our hearts. It is the means by which we experience our salvation.

For 1,500 years, God tried to tell Israel what to do and they would not listen. God had to come at it from an entirely different way. He needed to transition from law to faith. Likewise, we find telling others what to do is largely ineffective, especially when it comes to righteousness. We need to make the same transition.
