13 Articles of Faith

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be save

d, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Hello Ward Family,

Wow! What a fabulous General Conference! Each talk was filled with truth and direction and the spirit was palpable.

Today I write to you from Ottawa, where Demarise and I are having a long weekend away. Being back in this area, where I served 7 months of my mission reminded me of a correct principle.

Correct Principle #6.

God gives us precious tender mercies to show us how much he loves us.

32 years ago I was serving my mission in Gatineau, just across the river from Ottawa. For the Thanksgiving weekend, my companion and I received permission from our Mission President, President Rasband, to accompany a ward family to a scout camp retreat.

The family was Don and Karen Lavers and their young children. Don was one of our investigators, and had just been baptized the week before. He was also the director of scouting in the Ottawa region and had access to all of their facilities.

That day was filled with wonderful activities. We walked through the forest, filled with multi-coloured trees. Prepared a full turkey dinner in the large scout kitchen. Ate aforementioned dinner. Played some games and spent hours laughing and talking together.

At the end of the day, we all gathered in one of the lounge areas, before a roaring wood fire place and shared the things for which we were grateful. As I looked around the room, at the mesmerizing fire and the family who meant so much to me, I felt the great love Heavenly Father had for them and for me.

I vowed I would never forget that moment or the feeling I had. And I didn't. In fact, as we drove into Ottawa yesterday, my eyes got moist as I realized that it was exactly 32 years after that wonderful experience. And the feelings I had then returned to me as well.

God loves us. And if we pay attention, we will see manifestations of His love all around us.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Bishop Fischer

Hello Creditview,

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow in our Sacrament Meeting at 9:00. This will be an in-person meeting only, no zoom broadcast.

Since this is the third Sunday in the month, we will have Sunday School classes (and Primary of course).

Now for correct principle #4.

The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture, written by ancient prophets.

If you want to increase your testimony of the gospel.

If you have questions regarding some principle or policy.

If you want to feel closer to the Spirit and to the Lord.

The best place to start is daily study of the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and we will get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts.

It doesn't matter how long you read each day. It doesn't matter whether you read it chronologically or by topic. It doesn't matter if you prefer to listen, rather than read.

What does matter is that you make it a daily habit. Draw from it's insights and wisdom, learn from the incredible prophets that authored the books, open yourself to the spirit and allow it to testify of it's truthfulness.

Take time to ponder as your read.

Image leaving your home and friends to live in the desert with your family as Lehi and his family did.

Feel the passion for freedom and liberty and Moroni felt.

Seek to communicate with the Lord as Enos did.

You will find, as you study and ponder, that you will begin to identify with the people about whom you read. They will become real to you, and they will become your friends. Their lives were not that different from ours. They loved, they struggled, they sinned and they repented. When they were humble, they prospered, when they were not, they did not.

The Book of Mormon is true, it's authors were inspired men and prophets of God. If you let it, it will change your life for the better.

Love,

Bishop Fischer

Hello Ward Family,

A reminder that this weekend is Stake Conference. Please plan to attend in person if possible, all who desire to be at the Stake Centre can be accommodated. If you cannot attend in person, I have included the zoom links below.

Saturday Evening Adult Session 7:00pm

https://zoom.us/j/95061192907?pwd=eXJxWkg2Qk5mRWdESVVGaUZBSTJuZz09

Sunday Morning General Session 9:30am

And now for Correct Principle #3

You have the power. All the power! You decide where you will spend eternity.

Lehi taught: "Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself." (2 Nephi 2:27)

Regardless of where are you, where you came from, the challenges you have had, or are having; you have the power. Satan would convince you otherwise. He would tell you that because of your parents, your spouse, your children, your weaknesses, your financial situation, your education, your past sins or just your general capabilities, you can not control your eternal destiny.

He assures us the die is cast and our trajectories cannot be changed. In fact, he taunts: "why even try?"

Allow me to answer this question on behalf of all of us. We keep on trying, because we comprehend our magnificent and glorious possibility. We keep on trying, because we know that as long as we are trying, we are making progress, however insignificant, towards our Father. We keep on trying, because our souls are divine and Celestial glory is our destiny. And we keep on trying, because we know that, with desire and effort, we can fulfil the measure of our creation and become who we were created to be.

To quote the children's song "Jesus Once was a Little Child": "Try to be like Him, try, try, try." And I would add, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try.

Brothers and Sister, choose obedience, choose liberty, choose Eternal Life. Our future is divine.

Love,

Bishop Fischer

Good Morning Creditview Members!

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow at our Fast and Testimony Sacrament Meeting and anticipate hearing your testimonies of the gospel.

Tomorrow will be the final time we broadcast Sacrament Meeting over zoom. When we return to our regular meetings after Stake Conference, they will be in person only. Tomorrow also marks the end of the authorization to administer the Sacrament in your homes.

A reminder of our annual Ward Picnic on Monday. It will be good to socialize again. Although this picnic will be less elaborate than previous picnics (no bouncy castle or corn on the cob) because of COVID concerns; as our first ward social event in over 18 months, I am as excited to be together! I hope I can sleep Sunday night!

Also, a reminder of our upcoming Stake Conference on September 11th and 12th. The conference will be in-person with a zoom broadcast as well.

And finally, another correct principle.

Correct Principle #2.

God loves you. Yes, you.

One of Satan's tools, that he uses very effectively, is the suggestion that although God loves all His children, we, individually are unloved. He, Satan, convinces us that our sins and shortcomings are so incredibly horrible that God couldn't possibly love us. We readily see His love for others, but deny it to ourselves.

Here is the truth: you are not special, you are not exempt from the love of God. Your sins, shortcomings and weaknesses, are common to many. Of course, you must strive to improve, to overcome, to repent. But the love of God is not denied to you while you strive to improve, overcome and repent. It is continual and everlasting and available to all who will receive it. But we must receive it, God will not force us to feel His love.

If you are a parent, you know that children can sometimes cause great pain. We see their incorrect choices, and we understand the natural consequences of those choices, even when they do not. But no parent stops loving their children, especially not a perfect parent! We pray for them, we work with them, we counsel and support them, always. We watch for them as the father of the prodigal son watched for his boy. And when they come to their senses, we run to them with outstretched arms and fold them into a loving embrace. Thus it is with our perfect Father in Heaven. The moment, the very second, we turn to Him in true humility and trust, He will throw His arms around us and embrace us.

Finally, remember this truth from Elder Holland: "Keep loving. Keep trying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep growing. Heaven is cheering you on today, tomorrow, and forever."

Love,

Bishop Fischer

Brothers and Sisters,

Now that meetings are once again in person, these emails are less necessary. However, I have so enjoyed communicating with you each week, I believe I will keep doing so for a little while longer.

Tomorrow, one of our speakers will be Elder Gabe Taneza. Although his family has moved to the Cambridge Ward, they asked if he could give a homecoming talk in Creditview. I considered their request for about 3 one hundreds of a seconds and said: "Absolutely!"

We will have additional members in the congregation to hear Gabe tomorrow. But worry not, we will ensure social distancing is still possible.

And of course, we will continue to broadcast the meeting over zoom. (same link as always)

Over the next few weeks, each of my emails will contain a short "Correct Principle" of the gospel.

Correct Principle #1.

God lives. He is not the cosmos, He is not the ether, He is not symbolic or mythical. He is a living, breathing perfected being.

Jesus Christ lives. He is a separate and distinct being from His Father. Likewise perfected, likewise omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient. But entirely distinct. He was not, and is not just a teacher, a prophet or a healer, although He is all of those things. He is the literal Son of God in the flesh.

The Prophet Joseph Smith said: “It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God” That is why our first article of faith says: "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost."

This is where it all begins for us. Understanding the nature of our perfect Father and our perfect Brother. Knowing their character, changes how we approach them, how we relate to them and how we love them. We can't pray to the cosmos, we can't relate to a myth and we can't, when this live is over, embrace the ether.

I know They are real, I know They live, and I know They are our literal Father and Brother.

Love,

Bishop Fischer

Good morning Creditview,

Outside my office window, I can see the rain gently falling on our thirsty lawn. In addition to providing essential nourishment to lawns and crops, rain cleans the air and regulates the temperature. Hot humid days become fresh, clean and clear after a cleansing rain.

Similarly, when we attend our church meetings, doctrine, peace and joy, gently fall upon our thirsty souls, giving us the nourishment and rejuvenation we need for the coming week. Our cloudy minds and souls, become fresh, clean and clear after a cleansing Sabbath.

I'm so excited that we can meet again live! If you've ever been to a concert or symphony, you know that live is always better! There is an energy and a spirit at our in person meetings, that just can't be transmitted over the zoom call.

I invite you to join us in the chapel tomorrow. We will learn, sing, worship, and be edified, together.

For those who are still uncomfortable attending in person, zoom will still be used for the time being (you have the links), although I expect that in the near future, it will be discontinued, including the authorization to administer the Sacrament in our homes.

Love,

Bishop Fischer
