This weekend, we give thanks for 150 + 1 years of ministry at Knox Bracebridge. Those years have been filled with celebrations - weddings, baptisms, anniversaries; as well as challenges - funerals, losses, worries. Through it all, we know we have been upheld by God's Spirit of compassion and grace which has been revealed through each person touched by our ministry over these many years. As we celebrate this weekend, we go forward with faith into the future, knowing that same Spirit of compassion and grace continues to guide our steps.

You're most welcome to join the celebration on Sunday which will include a sweet treat during coffee hour featuring cake, ice cream, berries, and Birch Syrup crafted by the Goodchild family!

There are some passages of scripture that are so familiar we can recite them by rote. But do we know them "by heart?" Do we comprehend the radical and, indeed, revolutionary nature of those familiar words? In week 1 of our Adverb-ish Faith sermon series, we look at one of those overly family scripture passages - "love your neighbour as yourself" - and discuss what it looks like when we know that passage by heart.

I often like to say that "faith is a verb" and we could also say that "God is a verb," made visible through action. But what does that action look like? How do we enact faith? Those are the types of questions we'll be exploring during our upcoming Adverb-ish Faith sermon series. We'll begin the conversation this Sunday with the adverb BOLDLY to describe how to love. Over the centuries, we have crafted stories, symbols, and metaphors in our attempt to explain the inexplicable. We will examine the significance of the mystery of Pentecost as we gather for worship this Sunday at Knox, discovering how an event that took place two thousand years ago is still relevant in our context today. In faith communities, when we hear of someone facing difficulties we will often say "I will pray for you." But do we...really? Prayer is uniquely personal - how, when, where, what we pray will differ. But it can be a practice that unites us in ways beyond our understanding. We go back to science class in our service today with a conversation about how our lives are expressed through symbiotic relationships which include the Divine, Creation, and each one of us. We examine John 14:15-21 to examine what this type of symbiosis might look like.

You may have heard of No Mow May, a movement encouraging us to avoid cutting the grass to give insects, especially pollinators, a safe start to the new season. While it can be difficult to avoid the lawnmower as the grass grows, No Mow May acknowledges the symbiotic relationship we share with other species. We'll connect symbiosis with scripture this Sunday as we continue our LIVING our FAITH sermon series. Sometimes a life of faith is defined by what we DON'T do. We look for road signs that help navigate our way, instructing us what to avoid and where NOT to go. But what if the road signs of a life of faith are much less restrictive and are intended to invite others in, instead of keeping some out? Have you ever noticed how many signs are located around town telling us where NOT to go? Sometimes it's for our own safety (you definitely do not want to travel on the Silver Bridge these days!), but some notifications are a tad excessive.
