It seems fitting that during the last long weekend of the summer, we celebrate the new church Season of Creation. This new season encourages us to be renewed and refreshed by creation, but also to ensure that its gifts are shared with all people - not just some. As Pope Leo stated when announcing this new liturgical season, "Environmental justice – implicitly proclaimed by the prophets – can no longer be regarded as an abstract concept or a distant goal. It is an urgent need that involves much more than simply protecting the environment. For it is a matter of justice – social, economic and human."
In today's service, we discuss how to partner with one another, with creation, and with the Creator to share the abundant gifts we have been given.

The final long weekend of the summer is before us and I hope you will have an opportunity to get out and enjoy this beautiful season before it slips away. At Knox, we will be embarking on a new sermon series called "Given - and Giving - Life" which is dedicated to this special time of year, inviting us to discover the Creator within the creation. Our first sermon in this series is called Living Water and will focus on the symbolism of water as a sign of life.

Superheroes get things done. When there's a crisis they spring into action to save the day. We conclude our Superheroes of Faith sermon series with a challenge from the book of James to be DOERS of the word, and not just hearers.

In today's service, we also provide a round-up of our Superheroes Kids Camp with a video featuring some highlights from the past week.

Superheroes often have an alter-ego. Like Peter Parker to Spiderman, Clark Kent to Superman, Diana Prince to Wonder Woman. There is a fascinating book of the Bible that recounts the story of a superhero - Esther who became the Queen of Persia for "such a time as this." In today's service we discover how we have all been created for times such as these and we discuss how to exercise our 'superpowers' of compassion, kindness, peace, and justice. Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Raven...Abraham, Moses, Rahab, Esther. It may not be obvious, but every person in that previous sentence is a superhero. We can add our own names to that list as well. This Sunday, we will continue our Superheroes of Faith sermon series with a conversation about the importance of using the gifts that we have been given to support, serve, and care for others, realizing that we have been created for 'such a time as this.' You're welcome to join us at 10 am in person, or anytime online from Knox's website or YouTube channel.

We all long for a superhero to swoop in and save the day. To rescue us from evil and bring justice and order to our world. What if the superhero is YOU! In today's worship service, we examine what that might look like with Hebrews 11:17-39 as our guide. www.knoxbracebridge.ca

We are a people who love superhero stories! The new Spiderman movie is out and is already surpassing box office records. Why do we have this attraction to superhero stories? And how does this intersect with our faith? These are a few of the questions we'll be examining as we gather for worship at Knox tomorrow. You're most welcome to join us at 10 am in person or anytime from Knox's website or YouTube channel.

I don't think there are any families that have not experienced some sort of division - including families of faith. We conclude our Forming a Family sermon series with a conversation about how to address those divisions, even if reconciliation doesn't seem possible.
Our focus passage comes from Genesis 21:8-21, along with some guidance from Paul's letter to the Colossians, chapter 3.

We had a tradition when I was growing up. Every year around our birthday, we would measure how much we had grown by marking our height on the door frame into the kitchen. By the time we sold the family home, that doorway held dozens of markings, signifying the growth of our family members (even pets!) through the years. Thankfully, we kept the boards of the doorway and John had them framed and they now reside in our home. I am flooded with memories whenever I look upon those markings - but, if I am honest, not all of those memories are positive. As with every family, we have experienced challenges, misunderstandings, and division.

This Sunday, we will conclude our Forming a Family sermon series with an examination of a difficult passage of scripture which describes an ugly division within the family of Abraham and Sarah. Perhaps our examination of this passage will better equip us to handle the divisions which may exist in our own families. You can read the passage in advance by clicking here: Genesis 21:8-21.

You're invited to join us at 10 am in person, and our service will be available afterward from our YouTube channel and website.
