On Sunday, Chris Corrigan and I will lead a service at Bowen Island United Church featuring the music of Bruce Cockburn. A few weeks ago, we had our friend Peter Clarke join us and lead us in music of The Beatles. Now it's Cockburn's time.
Chris and I are lifelong fans of Bruce Cockburn and some of you may be as well. He is a deeply spiritual man with a love and respect for the environment, the marginalized and the voiceless. And Canada.
Join us at our usual time of 10:30 at 1122 Miller Road. You will have Bruce's beautiful lyrics in front of you and the hope is that you'll sing along. We will also pray, enjoy silence and share stories together.
We hope to see you there.

Our service at Bowen Island United Church is at 10:30 tomorrow morning, Sunday, August 9th, at 1122 Miller Road. If you would like to join us to say a prayer, light a candle and find out some ways you can support the people experiencing the monstrous fires in Summerland
and elsewhere, please do.

As always, all are welcome. Our hearts and prayers and energies are with the people, animals, earth and sky affected by these fires.

I wonder if any of you know how incredible, how amazing you are? We live in these complex machines called the human body. Our hearts beat automatically, our brains perform countless feats of neurological brilliance. Every single part of you is "fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14

This Sunday at Bowen Island United Church we will take a close look at this beautiful Psalm. It's a reminder that God is not looking at us in judgement or surveillance, but with Love. God knows us completely. God knows us in the way a weaver knows each thread on her loom or a poet knows every word in her poem. God knows our worries, our fears, our joys, sorrows and our celebrations.

Join us this Sunday as we are reminded of how deeply we are loved and how mysteriously we are made. And that goes for the earth; the birds; the reptiles and all the animals as well.....

We are at 1122 Miller Road and we gather at 10:30. All are welcome, well behaved dogs on leashes included.

As June winds up, and Pride month is almost over for another year, join us this Sunday for a Pride Service at Bowen Island United Church. We welcome all members of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community and allies. We will focus on unity, diversity-the gospels call to justice and radical welcome and how to be a good ally to memebers of the LGBTQIA2S+ Community.

Join us at 10:30 am at 1122 Miller Road. As always, all are welcome.

The Bowen Island United Church Strawberry Tea Committee would like to thank Bowen Island for once again supporting our annual Strawberry Tea! Many Islanders came for the “Tea experience,” to meet up with old friends or reconnect. We had a record number of visitors this year, in fact, we sold out of almost everything by 2:30, something that has never happened before. Heartfelt thanks to Melanie McCready for immediately stepping up and donating all her hamburger meat to us after we discovered our meat was missing on the morning of the Tea, and heartfelt thanks to The Legion and Tim Hausch, president of the Legion, for donating veggie burgers and buns. We also had several individuals come forward to offer to pay for the food so our church did not lose out. The Orchard on Bowen Island, Lorinda Strang, has over the years very kindly ordered and donated pie shells to our church, and they did so again this year in honour of Sue Clarke. We are humbled by the kindness and generosity of these individuals and organizations.

The Bowen Island United Church STRAWBERRY TEA DAY HAS ARRIVED! (Dedicated to the memory of Sue Clarke)
Come on down to Collins Hall (1122 Miller Rd) from 10-3pm and enjoy our food, silent auction and visit with friends. Pies are sold starting at 10am, $30.00, but sell out fast. Cash or debit welcome.
Don't forget to visit "SKY" (Seniors Keeping Young) at the Museum and Archives (Bowen Trunk Rd) for their summer social tea from 1-4pm.
