Question: How can we fan the flame of the Life of Christ in us? -
The answer is- spend time in prayer!
- spend time with Jesus in His Word!

Nothing else will transform us like spending time in the presence of Jesus.
If we are not spending time with Jesus- we won’t have what we need to grow in our faith.
Our works don’t help us grow- only by spending time with Jesus - will we be able to grow in our faith.
Jesus is our source of life!

God is so amazing. Jesus has all this power, yet He remained totally dependent upon His Father.
Jesus only did what the Father showed Him to do.
Friends, this is a big deal for you and I.
- if Jesus remained dependent upon His Father- how is it that we think- we can just say what we want and because we said it- it has to happen in Jesus Name!
God is not our puppet!
What God is showing us- that is what we are to do- that is where God’s power is at work.
God wants us to pray about everything-but God works through us as we depend upon Him.

This Sunday we studied John 5:21-29.
There is no one like Jesus. He is God. We are not the hero’s in our story - Jesus is. He is our Saviour and King.
Jesus is the one- we worship.
We are called to remain dependent upon Jesus. No other position shows true faith in Jesus.
Jesus has the power to give life-
Jesus has the power to raise the dead-
Jesus has the right to judge all people.
Jesus has the power to give eternal life.
Jesus loves you.

Jesus clarifies this topic about taking a sabbath rest by saying- the sabbath was made for mankind-not mankind for the sabbath.
Jesus is not releasing us from keeping the sabbath, but He is challenging us- to keep God’s mind concerning the sabbath.
Keeping the sabbath- is a step of faith.
To set aside our work- to take time to rest- is a step of faith in God’s ability to look after you.
God has given us work to do- but God has told us to take a sabbath rest from our work.
Both of these things are Holy to the Lord.
How do you honour the Lord- in your life?
Do you give God- any time for reading His Word!
Do you spend any time in prayer-before God?
Do you take a sabbath rest from your work -one day a week?
These are some simple things that honour Jesus in your life!

Continuing to look at taking a sabbath rest from our regular busyness, one day a week.
My own life has always been involved in farming. Growing up on the farm in a non Christian home- Sunday’s were just another work day. I did see neighbours take Sunday’s off but we didn’t. The funny thing about that was we were always the last ones to finish seeding or harvest.
After being in the grain business for 33 years, I noticed that the farmers who honoured God by not working on Sunday’s were prosperous.
By the world’s standards that should not have been the case.
But honouring God by taking a sabbath rest, pleases God, and God does bless those who obey Him.

What about Sunday’s for us as Christians?
God stepped away from creation on the 7th day.
What about us? Stepping away from our busyness- one day a week.
Farmers find it very difficult to do this.
Business leaders find it very difficult to do this.
Truckers find it very difficult to do this.
Mothers and homemakers find it almost impossible to do this.
But God is asking us to step aside from our busyness- from our work activities- to take a sabbath rest.
Why? To quiet ourselves to hear His still small voice.
To allow us time to discern God’s presence in our lives. To note of the things God is telling us - about ourselves- about life-to give us direction-to give us correction- to affirm His abiding love for us.
Can you and I actually take a sabbath rest one day a week from our busyness?

John 5:17 Jesus says- My Father is working until now, and I am working.
Jesus challenges the religious leaders by saying- is God subject to man’s Sabbath rules?
Of course the answer is -No.
Genesis 2:2 says - God rested on the seventh day resting from the work of creation.
God has not gone to sleep. God is always working on our behalf.
The religious leaders were very upset with Jesus because by Jesus referring to His Father as God, He was telling the world that He is God’s son.
By Jesus performing miracles on the Sabbath-Jesus is telling us as Christians that if we have the opportunity to do good for someone, whether it is on a Sunday, we are to do it.

Yesterday in our church service we looked at the John 5:16-20. The message title was called Honouring Jesus.
Apostle John tells us that Jesus performed miracles but because He did miracles- the Jewish religious leaders opposed Jesus and started persecuting Him.
But Jesus did only what the Father showed Him to do.
The religious leaders could not see that Jesus miracles clearly revealed that was fulfilling the Old Testament scriptures describing the Messiah.
The Jewish leaders were furious with Jesus performing miracles on the Sabbath.
Question: Do we ever act religious, and miss what Jesus is doing in our midst?

Jesus is calling the woman caught in adultery to become part of God’s Kingdom now.
It’s no different for you and I- He is calling us to become part of God’s Kingdom.
We cannot change ourselves. We can change and break some bad habits but we need Jesus life changing work to truly set us free from ourselves.
Jesus responds to those who know they need His help.
Jesus is inviting all of us to have a personal relationship with Him.
But- to have a personal relationship with Jesus requires us to be honest with Him. It requires us to want to be changed. It requires us to believe in Him and His abilities more than we want to hang onto our old ways. It requires us to want to die to ourselves because we want Jesus more than anything else. Nothing else will do- but Him and Him alone.

Last Sunday we also looked at the woman caught in adultery from John 8:7-11
Jesus says to this woman-go and sin no more. But Jesus says to her- I do not condemn you!
Jesus gave this woman-mercy.
Jesus has a deep desire to forgive people of their sins.
Jesus is about restoring people to a right relationship with God.
The religious leaders wanted this woman to be put to death.
But Jesus treats this woman with kindness and patience.
We have all done things that were wrong- we have made blunders in our life.
We have all needed God’s grace.
Jesus is the only one who can set us free from sins- but it takes us to recognize that we have sinned and repent before Jesus for our sins.
Jesus forgives us but He never accepts our sins as okay!
Jesus gives us grace when we deserve death because of our sins.
