Teresa was born in the Ottoman Empire to Albanian parents and after her father’s sudden death when she was only eight sent her family into financial difficulty. She joined the Irish Sisters or Loreto at 18 and then arrived in Calcutta, India and made her First Profession of Vows in 1931. In 1946 she took a nursing course and began her work with the destitute, sick and dying. In 1950 she founded the Missionaries of Charity dedicated to serving “the poorest of the poor” which is now operating in over 130 countries. She remains a symbol of selfless service and commitment to humanitarianism.

Saint Gregory the Great: Born into a wealthy noble family, Gregory was well educated and exploited his administrative talent as a prefect of Rome. He felt a calling to religious life and converted the family home into a monastery and was later appointed as papal ambassador to Constantinople. He was named a Doctor of the Church for his many writings and the development of the Divine Liturgy. He was canonized immediately after his death by popular acclaim. He is the patron of musicians, singers, students & teachers. So as we return to another school year, let us reach out to St. Gregory for a great school year ahead.

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation! "Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so." Genesis 1:29-30

And so God gave Man stewardship over his creation and today, we must pray for the care of that creation.

Perhaps now, more than ever, we need to pray for our neighbours to the south. Pray that today's reminder of their independence from one regime, will encourage them to fight for their freedom from another.

On St. Thomas Day, A prayer to seek his intercession to strengthen faith, overcome doubt, and follow Christ courageously.
O Glorious St. Thomas, your grief for Jesus was such that you would not believe He had risen unless you actually saw Him and touched His wounds. Pray for us that we may grieve for our sins which caused Christ's sufferings, and help us dedicate ourselves to His service, so that we may share in the blessedness of those who believe without seeing. Amen

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the blessings of knowledge and growth. May Your wisdom guide these graduates as they embark on new journeys. Grant them courage, strength, and faith to pursue their dreams. Let them always seek Your light in their paths. Amen

It's World Wide Knit in Public Day. Encouraging everyone to knit, learn to knit, teach someone to knit. It's relaxing and relatively easy to do and come fall and winter, there's always someone who could use toques, scarves, socks or mittens.
